"Ben Hur" filmed in Italy in the Cinecitta studios became a successful hit and won as first movie 11 academy awards and held this record until 1997 of James Cameron's "Titanic".
This "Ben Hur" is a remake from a silent movie version (from 1926 with Ramon Novarro). Younger people today call this movie long and boring and a old crap without a story.
But they're totally wrong. This movie has everything: an amazing cast, a great story (there is a "hidden" homosexual relationship between Messala and Ben Hur) very good dialogues, a great camera work, great Sets and great special effects and wonderful costumes and of course Miklos Rosza fantastic score. MOst famous became the chariot race between Messala (great: Stephen Boyd) and Judah Ben Hur (Charlton Heston).
The relationship was hidden because of the cencorship (Hayes Code).
"Ben Hur" is now perfect to have it frame by frame restored on Blu-Ray. The picture quality is really amazing and its definitive a must have!!! That's Cinema!!!!
Trivia:That one woman who played in the 1926 version Esther can be seen as an extra (cameo) in the remake.
