You know what I just thought of, how about showing pictures of different movies, not the obvious ones (The dark Knight, Transformers) but how about movies some members are less likely to talk about. I'm thinking of say... The Girlfriend Experience, or South Pacific for example.

@ Dr Awesome: Pics 7,8, and 21 in this gallery probably show the center/stand/amp setup best. The legs of the Sound Anchors stand extend forward beneath the platform that supports the center speaker. I slid the amp on the Salamander amp stand over the top of these legs to get the effect you are seeing. The cables from the amp to the center and other speakers are then routed underneath and back from the amp stand, and organized with a bunch of black zip ties. You can see the back of the speaker and amp in photo 21. The cables are low profile enough so you don't see much from a face-on view, particularly when the room is dimmed/dark.

Sorry I've been scarce around here guys. I've been tied up with work and a number of other commitments.

JamesN, sunnyny2000, js666, Dcryption, J.Kehlioni, b00st, J.Seb, zayrox, Dr Awesome, and WildCard: Many, many thanks for the multitude of gracious compliments. They are much appreciated.

namtab: The vid is on my list of things to do. I will post a link here if/when I actually get it done. In terms of your cost breakdown, those are all pretty close. In terms of the missed items (Classé SSP-800, my back row of Berklines, ButtKickers, riser, screen, power line processors, cabling, etc.), I'm afraid 10k is not even close. That wouldn't cover the screen alone. Bums me out to think of the various costs-- but the final result has been pretty much worth it.

mrjackolanterns:

Lumis pro's: extremely bright, outstanding black level performance, spot-on color performance, incredible depth to image, no rainbows.
Lumis con's: convergence and QC seem to vary substantially unit to unit (I seem to have gotten a good one). Very expensive (although one of the cheapest 3 chipper DLP's out there). The video switching from input to input is slow. Changing aspect modes is also slow. The projector is very revealing, so bad material looks really bad (I don't know if this is really a con, but bad quality material-- particularly bad Sat TV-- is nearly unwatchable.). A touch loud on the fan noise side. The user interface is a bit clunky.
11S2 pro's: terrific black level although not as good as the Lumis. Tack sharp-- no convergence issues. Excellent depth to image. Intuitive menu system. Very quick source and AR switching. Quieter than the Lumis. Greater vertical lens shift and wider lens zoom range (easier to place) than the Lumis.
11S2 con's: Relatively low light output in best viewing mode-- challenged with large screens. Rainbows (inherent to all single chip DLP's). Relatively expensive (and getting more so) as newer projector models come out. The Planar 8150 is nearly as good, is substantially brighter, and MSRP's for thousands less. The newer JVC's are also stiff competition for the 11S2.

Cheers mates!

This is absolutely the most amazing Home Theater set-up I have ever come across. You did not miss anything on the construction and layout, and the equipment speaks for itself. Right on!

dude this is AWSOME!

namtab69
 » Oct 05, 2009 10:43 PM

omg Brain (once again i'm on ur page and drolling) i just added your equipment cost and it costs more than an average persons house ($136,500!!) here is the break down:

B & W 802D $14,000
Velodyne DD-18 $5000
gotham sub $15,000
HTM2D. $4500
classé CA-5200. $9000
Classé CDP-300 $6500
Sim2 C3X1080 with lense $50,000
Berkline 45003 seats x4 $4000
B & W SCM-1 $3500

i'm still missing the screen price, the front processor, celing speakers, wires...but i'd estimate that to be around $10,000 - not to mention that a 2nd gotham will be added soon...and i thought my$10k system was high...:D u really must be a brain surgon

blu-ray junky, will0775, & xneox: Grazie mille -- your comments are much appreciated.

Kratos3-- The Salon2's are definitely on my radar, although I've got another little change to integrate for now (see my thread). I'm guessing I will add Ayre
MX-R's next, then maybe the Revels, then maybe a second Gotham. The wife and I don't really go to the theater often for reasons of busy work schedules
and three young children. Home is pretty much where it's at, so we're trying to bring the theater home to us.
We did see The Dark Knight at our local one-and-only IMAX, and it was pretty underwhelming-- part of it was that it was a poorly cared for and poorly
projected print.. It looks much better in this room than it did there. I have not seen the Meridian 4k, although some people who have seen it at AVS said
that it was disappointing. However, William Phelps (who is the principal engineer and designer of the PJ) begged to differ. At my current screen size, I don't
think I would benefit a lot from 4k. My next screen (14'+) may benefit from a 4k projector, but I'm pretty happy with the 1080P Sim2 for now...

Kratos3
 » Jul 20, 2009 02:48 PM

I think you should go with the Revels then! Everything I've read about them is that they are nothing short of perfection. I imagine you don't go to the theater too often. Outside of an IMAX, you couldn't do much better. Also, have you looked into the Meridian 810 4K projector?

xneox
 » Jul 20, 2009 01:17 PM

It's nice to see someone work with what they have. You should consider cleaning up the installation a little though...presentation goes a long way.

HAAAHAHAHAHAHA...seriously, if you're going to spend more money than the value of everything in my driveway combined on something other than transportation, THIS is the way to do it. Stunning room. Absolutely stunning.
