* Mitsubishi HC1600 720p Projector, shelf mounted, 14' throw.
* Pioneer VSXD412
* Kenwood speaker system: two centers, Right+ Sattelite, Left + Sattelite, RR+ Sattelite, RL+Sattelite, Sub 1 and Sub 2. (Subs located on either side of the seating area).
*Insignia Blu-Ray
*RCA Laserdisc
*Draper 100" 16:9 masking panels for 92" 2.35:1 scope ratio.
*Seating for 5 - Front row 10' from screen, back row 12-13 feet from screen.

Draper 100" 16:9 with masking down to 92" 2.35:1 cinemascope ratio. Panels are adjustable from 2.20:1 to as wide as 2.4:1. Currently displaying 2.35:1.

The panels were purchased from Home Depot and assembled and covered with fabric to match the draping system that surrounds the screen.

The panels are removable for 16:9 material.

Masking Panels off for 1.85:1 material

"King Kong" is the first DVD I popped in after building the panels to test the scope ratio. As you can see, I had to toggle the Keystone Correction a bit. If you look on the sides, the image is spilling (just slightly) onto the edges of the screen.

"The Day After Tomorrow" on BD. The camera is old an inexpensive, but you get the idea. I toggled the Keystone correction and it's projecting MUCH cleaner.

Sorry about the poor quality. My camera seems to have difficulty in low light scenarios, and the flash washes it out. This is the theatre overview.

Nice job, always love getting rid of those black bars, once you see a cinemascope movie without the black bars, it's really hard to go back.

I will take some of the requested pics. Sorry it has been taking such a long time - I am not on Blu-Ray.com that often, and it takes me a while to get pics up. Beta also wants to see the seating. @vega -- the Masking Panels are a very easy, simple, inexpensive yet effective setup using painted styrofoam, industrial strength velcro, and fabric. I will make a more detailed post later. It's a great setup to do 2.35:1 when you have a 16:9 screen, and don't want to put out the $$$$ for an anamorphic lens/sled. It worked well for me because my HC1600 is still relatively new, and I don't want to upgrade my projector until the bulb goes. @Beta - I'm as horrible at making measurements as I am at taking photos! I measured the room and ACTUALLY the projector IS throwing at 14' - but the back row is actually at 15 feet! The front row is at 10 feet, so your questions were well founded. I will take some more photos of the seating area (seating for 5) soon.

Nice set-up. If possible, can we maybe see daytime (with lights) shots of the panels so that we can see your approach? How are they attached? How are they adjustable? It sounds great (from your captions) but it is very hard to see from the pictures.

I'll take some more close up pics soon. The front and back rows are sorta on top of each other - but the back row is a couch with oversized ottomans, so they are spread out anyway. The front row is an overstuffed chaise lounge and the ottomans from the back row are right up against the back of the chaise lounge. It's not professional, but I will say it's comfortable.

can you put some pictures of the seating up? I don't know how you have the front row 10' and the back row only 12-13' seems like they'd be practically on top of each other. I'm terrible at photos too

Hi Everyone! I have been trying to throw up a few pics a week, but it's been a challenge getting the photos clear in a low light situation. I have a camera that does well close up - and then falters further on. The room is larger than it looks - 16x20 or so, and when I sit back and take a longer shot, it gets very grainy. I will look into getting better photos - but this is my best attempt for now. Enjoy!
