and Acoustic Audio PSW-8 300 Watt 8" thank u big daddy for talking about this sub. my house is 5,000sf i can here this sub all the way in my bed room let me no what u think.

That's some pretty nice equiptment you got there and those HDMI cords you have pictured look like little snakes. I like the pic of your subs with the feet in them. thanks the speakers are Dayton HTP-1 5.1 Home Theater Package 8 Powered and they sound great for 160 bucks trust me u can not go wrong i can here this set all the way up in my bed room and my house is 5,000sf this set rocks with the help of Acoustic Audio PSW-8 300 Watt 8"

Yeah, so those are smaller satellite speakers. Your going to want to have the subs handle most of the low freq (I would say everything below 100-120 hz minimum but maybe even the full range of the subs). Also, the subs that you have are going to outperform the one that comes in the HT system so probably just use the ones you have now. The problem with cheaper subs is they start introducing distortion even at lower volumes and higher freq than better ones. I look forward to seeing your final setup.

Crossover depends on the sub and the base response of your main speakers. I can't tell what your main speakers are from the picture but if they are relatively small or you are not using a rather powerful amp you will probably want to set you crossover to a higher freq. Once you have all your speakers set up in the proper locations (including the sub) I would play a movie or music which has a lot of base and the start turning the crossover down from highest freq to low. The amplitude/Gain I usually set in the mid range when doing this. You should go lower on the freq and when you start hitting distortion (a booming sound instead of nice clean and defined base) or "rattling" then it's time to back off just a bit. You can then play with the gain or the receiver's LFE volume to get the bass volume level that you need. You can then test it out on varied music/movies. If you start getting distortion or "rattling" then you want to back off as that ruins sound quality. The great thing about having two subs is that you don't need to turn each one up so much so you still get the base nice and clean without going to levels of distortion. LFE volume should match the rest of the frequencies. In other words, you don't want it to sound like the "booming" and distorted base coming out of the cars in the ghetto.

No, you could probably just place it on a sturdy box on your listening seat when finding the position. You should keep your ear close to the floor when trying to find the sweat spot because that is where the sub is going to ultimately go. Just be careful so it doesn't topple off (especially when it starts vibrating). The idea is to essentially switch your ear position with the position of the sub, find the best sound, and then switch them back. This way the sound is following the same path from the sub to your ears. It's easier to move your ear around than it is to drag a sub around and go back to listening.

deon475- "Optimal" sub placement is a very unique thing. If you would like to get the best response there is a trick you can try (although this was designed for single sub setups). Put the sub at your listening position (including height). Play something with prominent LFE. Then, crawl around on the floor so your ears are about the same height as the sub is going to be on the floor and find the spot that the base sounds the best. This is where you should put the sub. Having two subs makes this more difficult but doing each sub one at a time may work well. Clearly, there will be some aesthetic considerations for sub placement but at least you can quickly listen in the positions that you would be willing to put the sub. This is easier than positioning the sub in 100 places and listening at each place. Sometimes a few inches can make a world of difference.

Nice setup. I like the dual sub woofer setup, I use a 7.2 setup myself. Where are you placing those subs? It looks like they're right between your legs on all those shots! Good subwoofer placement is tricky and I think a lot of people just throw it against a wall or corner and not realizing that even moving it off a wall by a few inches has a dramatic effect on it's sound and volume. Very cool, congrats.

Since I live outside the U.S. I can't help you with the prices, all I can give as a "guideline" is if you look at my HT gallery, I spent 1100 USD on my A/V receiver, the 5 speakers and the sub...and it sounds great
