i like the idea of simply taking off the silver trim instead of painting them, it looks nice. only thing you need now is to go to a hardware store and match the treads of the screws and get some short (they should be a little shorter than the silver screws unless the silver screws can be driven all down to flush without stripping, if not get shorter ones) black screws. this way you can keep the original screws with the silver trim and they stay silver too!
