Thanks everybody! The ribbon tweeters on the HTD speakers sound very different than my old Polks. From what I've read, silk domes are smooth but a little more dull, metal tweeters are very crisp and bright, but can be harsh and fatiguing, whereas high quality ribbons have the smoothness of cloth domes with the clarity of metal tweeters without the listener fatigue. From my short experience with these, I would say that's true. These speakers have much more depth and dimensionality compared to my old Polks, and they seem to have a smoother overall response. The Polks seemed to have an exagerated lower treble and midbass, but more scooped out in the midrange. The simplest way for me to describe the difference is that these speakers sound much more lifelike. So far, I'm very happy with them.

Hey I love the new Level 3 center but it seems to need a lot more power then my old Level 3 center. I have an Onkyo 805 so it can handle it but this generation they have a need to be powered hard! in my opinion. I will be replacing the others in my setup soon. I love my first generation HTD speakers and have YEARS on them so I am confident the current model will last a long time! 5 stars coming your way for the HTD's...

Thank you Tommy. Hey Prerich, how do you know how my center sounds? Just kidding. Yes, I did have matching Polks all the way around, and from the same series, but my center was sorely lacking, so I started my upgrading there. I plan to eventually replace all of the Polks with Home Theater Direct Level Threes. I spent many months researching the best quality affordable speakers, and the HTD level threes have gotten great reviews. Also Big Daddy has recommended them to people many times, and he seems to know what he's talking about. My new center is miles beyond the old Polk. It has a smoother, cleaner sound, and has much better bottom and top end. It's also much bigger and heavier, which is cool with me. The main difference that I've noticed is the top end clarity. It sounds much more effortless on dialog sibilance. The Polk was much duller, yet more brittle, and tended to distort ocassionally.

Ok, I have to ask this question - do you plan on upgrading your mains? Your center channel sounds very different from your mains - other than that, this a very nice system.
