Why? Well, it's a barn, and I wanted to create a "bat cave" viewing environment, from the perspective of ambient light. Also, we have bats living in the rafters of the main house (not the barn - they're a protected species :-). It took about 8 months of work to turn the room from uninhabitable to really quite cosy. Dimensions are 31ft long x 15ft wide x 14ft at the highest point of the ceiling.
The room was recently featured in a video production for a UK AV forum. If anyone is interested, you can see the video here...

and the pits of doom :-)
The screen wall is covered entirely in acoustically transparent fabric, behind which is a thick layer of rockwool for mid/high freq absorption. Either side of the screen wall, on the pitched walls, are panels of black velvet for reflected light absorption.

Acoustic panels (ceiling)
Uploaded Nov 26, 2008 09:15:44
There are six acoustic absorption panels hanging from the ceiling. Each consists of a 2ft x 2ft timber frame & contains blocks of dense rockwool. The panels are covered in acoustically transparent cloth.
One of the main challenges...

...was having to design the room around a fixed mounting location for the projector. Without putting in extra beams, or creating unsightly supports, the pj was always going to have to be mounted on this middle beam. On top of that, I had to factor in the anamorphic lens, which is fussy about throw ratio (to avoid geometric distortion), and also height of the screen off the floor due to the pitched ceiling. Calculating the exact size of custom screen to order was a tense process! Fortunately, I did my sums right & it worked out ok ;-).

A comfy chair where I sit to take time out from work, read one of the movie books you can see on the shelf, or just chill out with a beer/whisky. A fridge/cooler is next on the list of things to get!

ATI Eyefinity setup - 3 x 24" monitors driven by two 5850 cards in Crossfire
Fantastic setup. Can I ask what kind of frames are you using for your posters and how are they mounted? I have an angled wall as well and have been trying to figure out how to do it.
You have an unbelievable setup. One of my fav's, nothing to improve on. From front to back and top to bottom perfect. I can't believe it can be done better:)
Definitely love this home theater. I am definitely jealous of your triple wide PC gaming setup. You've definitely got great gear. Now you just need a great collection to go with it, unless there's more than what we can see.
There are a lot of great theatres on site, and some of them are very similar to theatres that I have built and constructed with my customers. But I commend you on a great build. I love the equipment, the speakers, the screen. Fantastic lineup of stuff and I can tell you spared no expense. People here who are looking to build rooms should look here and see what can be done with a unique space. Awesome.
I am speechless... of how awesome this theater room is. Love it that people are using anamorphic lenses, great subwoofer set up, and I'd get a lick out of that 3 screen gaming.
