Beware the moon lads...
Best werewolf movie ever...period. The picture is very grainy in the beginning but gets much better as the film goes along. For its age, this is the best the film has ever and will ever look. The special features are just awesome. Highly recommended |

Best werewolf film ever!!
AWIL is not only the best werewolf movie ever made it is also one of the best genre films of all time. I have seen this film more then any other movie and it still feels fresh. And while filmed in the early eighties, it feels timeless. The blend of horror and humour are perfect. The horror comes at you brutal and/or fast and the homour is never forced but comes naturally out of the absurdity of the events (waking up naked in the zoo, having your dead friend tell you you are a werewolf).
PQ is good but not great. It's by far the best I have seen it and I have seen it in almost all its forms. Theatrical, RCA video disc, Laser disc, DVD, DVD SE, and now Blu ray. The blu ray is by far the best (I never saw the HDDVD so I can't compare). Colors pop more then they ever did and detail is much improved. The film is very grainy and dark but that is how director John Landis wanted it. This is probably the best the film will ever look and thats ok by me.
AQ sounds fine for a film of this age and budget. The dialogue sounds much clearer then I ever remember. However the music soundtracks seem a bit quiet.
Extras - You get the feature length Documentary "Beware the Moon" which covers just about everything an AWIL fan could want. Worth the price of the disc itself. The film also comes with a new Rick Baker interview as well as all the extras from the SE DVD. Lots of good stuff to be found here.
For fans of the film this is a MUST! If you already have the HDDVD it is still worth the purchase because of the Documentary. If you have never seen it then you qwe yourself a favour and buy it. |

The Greatest Werewolf Movie of All Time
While I can only rate the PQ a 3.5, it is still leaps and bounds above any previous SD release. The PQ may not stand up to the likes of "Wolverine" or "The New World" as far as colors and the "pop" factor are concerned, but it is by no means a poor PQ.
The video is consistantly grainy (but not overly), and incredibly crisp. Colors are more vivid, especially the inky blacks when on the moors and the liberal doses of blood throughout the entire film. If you're a fan of the movie, then purchasing the bluray version is an absolute no-brainer. |

Worthy upgrade for fans of werewolves
The Blu-ray "An American Werewolf in London" offers two reasons for fans of the film to upgrade from previous DVD release. First, the the picture quality is a definite improvement over the previous DVD Collector's Edition. Second, this "Full Moon Edition" includes a great 90 minute making of documentary which was written, directed and narrated by a fan with care. All other special features that were on the Collector's Edition DVD are also included with the Blu-Ray although many of them are rendered unnecessary by the new documentary.
Unfortunately, I think "American Werewolf in London" has the most disappointing Blu-ray picture I have seen for a classic movie... there is a lot of grain in many scenes. So much so, that they don't appear to be in high definition. I am surprised older movies like this aren't put through a restoration/enhancement process to take the grain away and improve the picture quality.
Nevertheless, I recommend upgrading to this Blu-ray for the aforementioned reasons. |

Dissapointing blue transfer
Got this today, and found it to be dissapointing. If you have the DVD,I find no reason to trade for BD on this one.May not be the transfer's fault, but a real lackluster version.
Film is jolly good though:) |

Same Transfer as HD-DVD
I also have the HD-DVD version of this movie and was hoping the Blu-ray would not be just a copy but it was. Very disappointing PQ with grain at times as heavy as snow. When at London, PQ was ok, but that's about it. |

Possibly the best
Watched this when this first came out.
Enjoyed it then
Watched it again on BD still enjoying it!
Have this on DVD already, but double dipped when the BD came out.
The PQ is a lot better then the DVD that's for sure.
What looks like smudges on the lead character's face on DVD are clearly scratch make on BD (Kudos Mr Rick Baker)
