Better Haircut and a Better Movie

When the DaVinci Code stumbled into theatres critics lambasted it's lack of creativity in adapting the story to the screen. They felt that Langdon's character was little more than a glorified narrator telling the audience about the story and the plot instead of leading them on a journey through it. Thankfully it was saved by some very good performances and a few intriguing chase sequences. Now comes the inevitable sequel where once again Langdon tells the audience what is happening, but if you could get over that the first time then it won't hinder this experience. Where Angels & Demons surpasses The DaVinci Code is in it's thilling story line. Langdon is asked to assist in the investigation and rescuing of four kidnapped Cardinals just as they were to be called in to vote on who would become the next pope. The Cardinals are not the only concern as a very powerful explosive device is hidden in Vatican City at the end of the thought-mythical Path of Illumination. Can Langdon solve the centuries old clues, rescue the Cardinals, and find the device before Vatican City is consumed by light?

Like the film, the seamlessly-branched transfer on this disc surpasses that of The DaVinci Code. While the DaVinci code was often soft, this image is razor sharp and only a handful of scenes suffer from the crushing that seeped into the first film far too often. The audio transfer is very well represented with a powerful score and dialogue that is clean and clear.

Recommended to fans of the Original or Dan Brown's books.

a different davinci

Some interesting thoughts on the church & it's history but i wasn't on the edge of my seat like i was with the davinci, but still a good movie in it's own right. bd was crisp with very good sound even thru alot of dark scenes. Plot was good with good acting but there was just something missing that i can't put my finger on. Extras were pretty good. To me the bd is worth buying if your a davinci fan, if not rent first and see what you think.

Hanks and Howard: Thier First Sequel..............................

But Angels & Demons is a prequel on paper to the monster that is The Da Vinci Code. A&D has a much more simple story to follow that doesn't requier you to be a road scholar to enjoy the plot. The adventure aspect works well with this story more so then Da Vinci. Hanks gives his usual 110% performance and you can tell he is having a good time. Director Ron Howard also weaves the story together well and mixes the drama and adventure equally for an overall good experience. Sony offers up a great blu. PQ is solid on all levels as well as AQ. There is a second disc that houses all the behind the scenes who-raa we are all accustomed to. If you loved Da Vinci, you'll love this prequel.

Filmmakers improve the series with this second installment...

This movie truly trumps the Da Vinci Code in almost every way. The screenwriters were obviously more comfortable altering the story to fit the big screen, whereas in The Da Vinci Code they tried to cramp as much of the bestselling book into the film as possible, and as a result the film felt a bit jumbled. I especially like the fact that they didn't include silly 'flashback' scenes that totally screwed the pacing like the first film.

Video quality was not as good as I would have expected. It's not horrible by any means, but it's not as good as other releases from the summer of '09 such as Star Trek. Audio is fine, this is more of a subtle film, so the sound pallet is also subtle.

I really like this film, but I am a fan of Ron Howard, and I enjoy the history/treasure hunt genera. For anybody else, I would rent before I would buy.

Dan Brown book done well

This film looks amazing in the HD and for the film it's generally well paced and plenty of action with another story for the meaning. It's well paced in the fact that the film seems shorter than it actually is.

Silly but inoffensive.

When the Pope dies and the Illuminati threaten his succession - and the Vatican - with destruction by anti-matter, symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to solve the mystery and save the day.

Fluffy, ridiculous entertainment that, thankfully, moves along at a fairly brisk pace. If nothing else, the visuals of Rome and the Vatican make great eye-candy.

Good PQ and AQ.

Are you kidding me??

I can't believe Ron Howard put this crap out!
Plot holes are everywhere, century old treasures are treated by the main characters as toilet paper! Strangers that have never met Tom Hanks character speak to him in english!!! LOL

Camerlengo after having his chest burned with a red hot iron rod is running around in the next scene like Carl Lewis with no pain or reaction about his burn!! He should have been in the hospital or crying in agony!!!

Could be called National Treasure 3

Remove the Declaration of Independence and Nicolas Cage, replace them with the Vatican and Tom Hanks, and you have National Treasure 3. The biggest comparison is that the main characters of both movies are essentially all- knowing "super-slueths" who never need to research anything or look anything up: they know everything off the top of their heads. Every twist and turn unbelievably works in the favor of the villian(s), as though they had planned it that way all along.

It's a fun movie and entertaining. Like National Treasure, however, it requires way too much suspension of disbelief. As a result, you can never truley get lost in the film because you keep thinking "Oh, come on!" every couple of minutes. James Bond is more realistic than these highly overrated Dan Brown thrillers.

If you're looking for something intellectual, look elsewhere: it's way to silly and ridiculous to take seriously. If you want an entertaining film where you can shut off your brain, it's definitely worth a weekend rent. Is it worth owning? Well, I'm already seeing a ton of copies being traded in at the local video game/ movie exchange stores- obvious blind buys- which suggests that unless you're a bonafide fan, it's probably not worth owning as re-watch value is next to nil.

PQ is excellent. Colors are very sharp and vibrant. Blacks are deep and inky. Many "wow" moments to show off a high def system with.

Not nearly as good as Da Vinci Code..

..and I enjoyed the book much better and felt that a lot of the scenes were unnecessarily changed for the movie. But they always do that.
The pq looked really great in my opinion and the aq was top notch
The bottom line is this is a renter with not much re-watch value

Why jam 2 full length movies onto 1 disc with a 3 disc set?

Crisp colors for the most part. Actually enjoyed this movie--AQ was dead on..I only wish they would have split the extended version and theatrical version to 2 separate disc instead of jamming 2 full length movies on 1 disc, extras on 1 and digital copy on the third. I believe the PQ would have been better had they done so.
