glad i passed on the dvd!
I passed on the dvd mainly because i couldn't afford it at the time and ended up forgetting about it
but now that it's here on Blu i made sure to pick it up asap. The extras were mainly what i got it for
because i wanted to see more history on the real George and the extra about Columbia as a country
was a great (but short) addition. In the end this film was brilliantly portrayed by the cast and truly a
pleasure to watch on Blu. This is one of Johnny's best. |

Great movie!
This was the first time I have seen this movie so I have no comparison from the other formats before BD, but I thought this was a pretty exceptional title all around. The movie was awesome it was very smooth with great acting (espicially Depp and Liotta) and the music of the different eras of the movie were excellent!
PQ-At first I thought the picture was awful! I had to check my equipment to make sure the settings weren't out of wack! But once I starting to get further into the movie I relized that was as it was intended to show the different times in his life the older it was the worse it looked. The flashbacks of his childhood looked like the greens and blues were just overpowering but it was to give you a feel of the time. As it progressed into the 70's the colors neutralized but then graininess came into play. It's actually quite awesome! There is a scene in Columbia that I thought the picture was reference quality and it really never let up the whole movie.
AQ- I was very pleased with the audio as well. As I said before the music was great to help with the timeline of the film. Now since this movie is very dialouge driven there wasn't a whole lot of action to give it that uumph! But for me the True HD track hit perfectly! The music was loud and full from all speakers. The presence of the surrounds and backs were well known at some parts and the whole movie had crystal clear dialouge. Again the part in Columbia is an excellent reference for audio as well. No explosions or flying bullets but there is one great thing about this scene- it has a realalistic feeling of being there. There is birds and crickets all around, the characters talking and just ambient noises. Then from off in the distance there are men talking and a faint gunshot through one mans head. It's not loud and booming but it is real! The camera is at a distance and the sound is as well. My only complaint with the audio is that some of the music did not sound 100% clear. The scene in Mexico there is some authentic music playing and it just lacked the clarity of the rest of the film. Other than that it is great.
I didn't check any special features but this movie is a great movie in all aspects so go check it out and for 19 bucks on Amazon I'd say it's well worth it! |

Picture Quality was decent, nothing crazy, but it was definitely HD and better than HD on Cable/Satellite...
Audio Quality was decent, it DOES have a Dolby TrueHD track and was mislabeled as Dolby Digital 5.1..
The movie itself is one of my favorites and definitely gets a 5 and worth the upgrade from DVD....however, I traded in the DVD a few months ago... |

So in the end, was it worth it?
This is a great movie. The story is told in a "Goodfellas" sorta way. The Blu-ray includes a True HD and DD 5.1 track, not just a DD 5.1 like the package states. I don't know if it matters that much for this type of movie, but it is a plus for HD audio fans.
It's not Iron Man quality, but the picture and audio are pretty good. Alot better than other versions of the film I have seen before. Includes a descent amount of special features too along with a digital copy. A good buy if you like the movie. |

I believe the blu version is a vast improvement over the dvd in picture quality and audio as well. there is some intrusive grain in some scenes but over all the picture quality is good.
It could have been better but the movie itself is well worth the price of admission.
It also comes with a digital copy so you cant complain a whole lot about value but, I would have preferred a perfect transfer instead. |

Excellent biopic!
I have been a fan of this movie for a while now and considered if it was worth buying the blu-ray when I already own the DVD version. It was well worth it! As for the movie, it is an excellent drama with great story telling and acting. The picture and audio are not perfect but definitely an upgrade from the DVD version. Recommended! |

I watched this movie today first time seeing it and was very impressed with the story line this is a excellent movie pq was great in some scenes but some other scenes it lacked a bit audio is only dd but this is a dialogue movie so no complaints there overall this is a movie I will definately watch again |

Johnny Depp has come along way since his days on 21 Jump Street. Also a far cry from his first movie role in A Nightmare on Elm Street. 2001's Blow casts him a real life drug pusher George Junga who single handedly turned a small dope business, into a highly profitable cocaine powerhouse. This is the story of his rise and fall, and rise and capture. The movie is a great mix of characters and settings taking place from the early 70's to mid 80's. New Line Cinema has spread out a fine looking blu edition. PQ is clean and sharp. Some small grain in areas. AQ plays a nice truHD effect, exspecially when music is in the narrative. Initially a DVD Infinifilm release, this ports over all the suppliments on the movie's history. A definate great addition to any collection. |

Great Biography
Wow Johnny Deep is the man, no one could of played Geroge Jung as good as Johnny Deep. This movie is about the man who was responsible for about 85% of Americas Cocaine in the 80's. With average PQ and AQ this one need to be in your collection. MUST OWN |
