"WE COME HERE TO FIX WHAT YOU FUCK UP"
Great import from the UK about rampant drug corruption in the slums of Rio and a police force known as the BOPE squad who basically take the law into there on hands to fight criminals and drug dealers. They're sort of the Dirty Harry's of Brazil. Like the reviewer said this film will not be everybody's cup of tea and some may be bothered by the overall lawlessness of the police but I found it very entertaining and interesting. I loved the documentary style shooting that was done with lots of hand held camera work which really gives you the feel of being a voyeur as to what's going on. It's raw, intense, gritty and very effective!! The story is also very well written and told.
The blu looks and sounds great too! You could hear lots of echoing gunfire in the surrounds.
This movie is locked "B" but if you have a region free player like I do (vqm-100) I suggest you import from the UK. It's well worth it and came out to less than $20 Canadian!
Highly Recommended!! |

"The Story of the BOPE"
Based on the novel, and winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Elite Squad is the semi-fictional account of the BOPE which means in English, Special Police Operations Battalion, and are considered to be one of the most violent military forces in the world; arresting and destroying drug trafficking militias and criminals in the slums of Rio de Janeiro.
Optimum Entertainment has released Elite Squad on blu-ray and it looks fantastic! The transfer looks amazing. the daylight scenes look very sharp, clear and bright. The nighttime scenes have yellowish lush colors in some parts which looks very nice too.
The audio is excellent. All the scenes have clear and crisp sound. This makes the shooting scenes so intense, thanks to the action and the gun bullets flying all over the place. The dialog in the film is also very clear and easy to follow. This blu-ray disc includes optional English subtitles.
There are only two special features in this disc which is pretty disappointing; an International theatrical trailer, and a 30min interview with director, Jose Padilha which is very interesting.
Even though this blu-ray disc does not have many special features , such as a documentary, or an audio commentary this is a film you must own on blu-ray, thanks to the remarkable story, acting, and the action sequences, with an incredible transfer and audio. Recommended!
This is a region B blu-ray disc and is locked which means you must have either a Region B blu-ray player, or a region-free blu-ray player. |
