THE Definitive "Fight Club" Edition
An Excellent movie that shows how Blu-ray can give an Impressive Experience to and already Phenomenal Film!
PQ is OUTSTANDING!!!! I love how the film maintains DEEP blacks yet scenes during night time are still distinguishable and clearly seen. Excellent grain, giving the movie a very film-like transfer. Daytime (as well as lit interior scenes) are pristine! Clean transfer and a beautiful color correction is noticable to others who already own the DVD. AMAZING!
AQ is INSANE!!!! Extremely LOUD!!!! (I agree with another poster: Turn down the volume when starting or you'll jump out of your skin!) Deep bass, excellent surround use, amplifying ambient sounds to enhance scenes. Every bone crunch and punch is heard and is beautifully gut wrenching! Dialogue is clean and audible through the crazy action as well as quiet scenes.
New Extras are added. They're interesting especially the sound design feature, commentary tracks (FOUR of them!) and the Spike TV Guy's Movie Hall of Fame featurette!!! One thing would've been that I would've liked to have seen the DVD special features (which are included) be transfered to 1080.
Tyler says, "This is an Amazing film and pick it up for the P and AQ alone. It's a definite upgrade to Blu-ray, and for this price, why wouldn't you?" |

A Classic
Truth be told, I hated this movie the first time I saw it back in '99. But after reading so many glowing threads and discussions about it online over the years, I gave the movie another spin last year. And realized I made a huge mistake. The film is brilliant. Smart, funny, creative and visually stunning. And the BD is a knock out. A must own for any fan. |

Gamma's Fight Club review
Fight Club- Blu-ray review
The Movie itself:
Fight Club is a film that has grown in cult status since it’s release ten years ago. When released, it was ripped to shreds by reviewers, and it was considered a failure in the box office. However, its releases on DVD and VHS garnered a following. The film’s popularity grew, mainly among college men, and became a pop culture icon. Even if you haven’t seen the film you are most likely aware of at the minimum, the first two rules of Fight Club. You don’t talk about Fight Club. And one last thing to mention is the “hype” that surrounds the film. Around 2003 the film began to garner attention in high school audiences, who have since claimed the film to be “the best movie ever made.” While it’s a great film, it’s not even close to being the best movie ever.
But does the film deserve the attention that it receives? In this reviewers opinion, absolutely. Fight Club is directed by David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and features excellent performances by Brad Pitt (Inglourious Basterds) and Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk).
The film starts with the narrator (Edward Norton) living with insomnia. The narrator tries something new, and begins to go to support groups, in which he finds peace. His peace is disrupted however when Marla Singer (Helena Bonham-Carter).
On a business trip, he meets a man named Tyler Durden. Tyler has an energy narrator had never seen. And when he finds his apartment blown to pieces when he arrives home, he calls Tyler, and they become friends. Tyler asks narrator to hit him. Hit him as hard as they can. And the first punch was thrown.
Tyler and Narrator form an underground Fight Club, and their personalities begin to change. They don’t view the world the same. Tyler starts what he calls “Project Mayhem”, a way to strike back against the society that controls them. Narrator realizes the lunacy of Tyler’s plot and attempts to stop him, culminating in a climax and reveal that may blow your mind if you don’t know how it ends.
Fight Club has netted itself a spot in my top ten films. I recommended it to all those interested. Just go in with an open mind, and you will find a good movie.
5/5
The Video:
Fight Club is brought to Blu-ray by Fox in a AVC transfer framed in 2:40:1. Fight Club is an inherently dark film and it has a very distinct gritty style and the Blu-ray renders it impeccably. The blacks are some of the best I’ve seen on the format and there is always a layer of grain present. Facial detail is great and skin tones are rendered to perfection. Colors can be bright and pop off the screen. It’s a great transfer, and it bests the german release in spades. The only problem with the transfer is that some shots can seem soft, while the previous was distinctly sharp.
4.5/5
The Audio:
Fight Club hits blu-ray with a pulverizing 5.1 DTSHDMA that, honestly, is one of the best I have heard on the format. The opening credits features a score that rotates between every surround, and the bass pounds with every beat. The actual fight sequences are incredible. The crowd blares through each channel and the punches hit harder than any action movie I’ve seen recently. Dialogue is always clear and distinct of the course of the film, and the score bleeds across the entire soundstage. It will bring a smile to any listeners face, and it’s worth buying the disk for alone.
5/5
The supplements:
First up for the supplements is four, yep four, audio commentaries. All of which are treasure troves of information. The commentaries include the following participants:
Commentary one: David Fincher- David goes solo for a great commentary that covers nearly every topic imaginable.
Commentary two: David Fincher, Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham-Carter- The four provide insight into the personal stories of shooting the film and into their own lives. The best track on the disk and one of the best I’ve heard.
Commentary three: Original author Chuck Palhniuk and screenwriter Jim Uhls- This track covers the details of adapting the novel for the big screen.
Commentary four: Alex McDowell, Jeff Cronenweth, Michael Kaplan and Kevin Huag- This final track covers just about everything else.
Behind the scenes Vignettes- While offering insight into the production, these are at times to cumbersome to manuver and watch. I really wish they could have made a better system for the blu, but they are easier to go through then they were on the dvds.
Deleted Scenes- Seven or so cuts that are worth a watch. They were trimmed for time, or pacing.
Promotional material- Trailers, TV spots, production stills, PSA’s and a music video.
3.5/5
HD bonus content:
Flogging Fight Club- The presentation at the Spike 2009 movie awards in which Mel Gibson presents Fight Club with the honor of being admitted into the guy’s movie hall of fame
Insomniac mode: I am Jack’s Search index- Having problems finding the supplemental information you are looking for? Try using this to find it.
A Hit in the Ear: Ren Klyce and the sound design of Fight Club- Try your hand at remixing key scenes of the film.
Final Thoughts:
Fight Club is a film that will remain in popular culture for years to come, and I find it to be a fantastic film. Fox treats the film with love and the blu-ray is great all around. Highly recommended.

Nice movie, nice disc
I liked this movie, i thought edward norton did a great job in this. One of David Fincher's best. The PQ was amazingly impressive. I thought the dvd looked like absolute crap, but this movie looked so clear and had a ton of clarity. The AQ was amazing too, the plane crash sequence is absolutely bombastic. Definitely good stuff for demo. |

So Much for the First and Second Rule
Fight Club has been ridiculed as a pseudo-psychological film promoting gang violence, vandalism, and other bad behaviour. The fact of the matter is that Fight Club is just that, on the surface. What one finds beneath is a compelling character story, artfully portrayed by two gifted actors. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt star as "Jack" and Tyler, the erstwhile founders of Fight Club, an underground fighting ring to bring men back to the basic primal instincts they've forgotten. When Tyler expands their empire to other endeavours with homework assignments, Jack begins to question his role.
The video transfer is thick with grain and detail in every scene, the dilapitated house has never looked so deliciously uninhabitable. The audio level on this disc is a bit shocking(read: turn down the volume before starting), that being said there only a handful of scenes where the dialogue was difficult to understand.
The disc is highly recommended. |

Awesome Move
Great movie, amazing transfer, my only gripe is the cheap packaging for this movie, you would think a 10 year release would get a booklet or something, but instead a cheap cardboard box with the worst case i have ever seen. Still worth buying for the movie, and especially the sound. |

I'm breaking the 1st rule of Fight Club.
Been waiting a while for FC to hit Blu-ray. Kept an HD version on my DVR (from HBO-HD) for nearly 2 years, just waiting for the day we'd get this in 1080p.
PQ: Very, very nice. Would've liked a bit more depth to this, but this is not a reason to NOT pick it up. It's the best we've seen it since we took the trip to the theater in 1999.
AQ: Nothing short of excellent.
Extras are from the old DVD, with a exception of 2 (unless I miscounted) new features. I'm a huge fan of these extras. Still contains the rare theatrical TEASER which is nearly impossible to find online. I remember seeing this teaser when I saw Lake Placid.
Pick this up folks! |

It's a must own for fans
I am very pleased with the treatment. The picture is not as sharp and "pop" as some but it was never intended to be so for me it's perfect. A huge step up from the SE DVD.
The audio is absolutely stunning. A perfect 360 degree mix thoughout. There is always something going on in the rears. The few big moments will knock your socks off as long as your system is up to the task.
Plenty of special features. The commentaries alone are worth the 5 rating, everything else is icing on the cake.
One of the greatest movies ever finally gets the treatment it deserves. |

“We are the all singing all dancing crap of the world.”
“Fight Club” is a strange, wild, dark, perverse, and perhaps offensive decent into chaos. And that can be either good or bad, depending in your sensibilities. Many critics seem to have been thoroughly divided by this film.
But everywhere I go, I seem to hear nothing but good things about it from friends and strangers alike. I have to agree with them; I think this movie has more good things than bad. It is a mesmerizing story with lots of memorable moments (both funny and dramatic), and it is well-developed. It has some interesting thought-provoking content, including some comments and themes about consumerism and capitalism. With a seemingly nonsensical twist toward the end, the plot makes sense in its own way (and seems really sublime on repeated viewings). Characters are strong; the narrative is very interesting and there are a lot of memorable lines. Acting and writing are excellent. There are some interesting special effects, most of which hold up to this day. Photography is solid, and the editing style is interesting. It all works together to create some distinctive imagery. Production design (sets, props, costumes, sets) is excellent. Music is really interesting (performed by the Dust Brothers).
This disc has awesome quality. The picture is very sharp and detailed, with excellent color and contrast. There is a fine layer of film grain; it is noticeable and noisy in some scenes, but detracts very little from the image overall. Sound quality is excellent (DTS-HD MA 5.1), with a few of the more exciting scenes being really loud and the rest of the movie being clear and solid. This disc includes lots of extras, including a few commentaries, some featurettes and deleted scenes ported over from the old DVD release, and a couple of new features (some awards footage and something that lets you fiddle around with the sound mixing on select scenes). My copy came with a cool slipcover that can fold open.
There is also a nice little gag with the menu screen. If you put the disc in your player and you see a menu screen appearing for a romantic comedy called “Never Been Kissed,” don’t panic. The screen will flicker, and the real menu will appear. Bet you thought it was a manufacturing error, didn’t you?
I am Jack’s joyous satisfaction. |

Fight Club
Review of the BRD version of my Favorite Movie EVER:
The Movie:
I'm not going to say anything about the plot. You must see this movie with no knowledge of what it's about to fully appreciate it. Although I've seen it dozens of times and only enjoy it more each time I watch. Best movie ever made.
The Video:
It's still grungy and gritty, but that's the way it's supposed to look. Dirty never looked this pretty. The visuals are near-perfect and the integrity of the original art direction is still kept.
The Audio:
WOW. My TV was shaking. 'Nuff said.
The Extras:
There's lots of 'em. Most interesting are the commentaries. Especially the one by the film's screenwriter and the author of the novel.
My favorite movie ever is also now my favorite Blu-ray ever. |

Fight Club - A Must For Every Blu-Ray Collector!
Movie - What can I say that hasn't been said, very good flick with a deserving Blu-Ray release.
Video - I watched the movie last night and man the video transfer was really good with no signs of dirt, ringing, or even EE. I did notice that there was sometimes where the image on some faces I noticed a green tint on some of them, but besides that it looks very good for being a 10 year old movie.
Audio- The audio mix was done very good and the explosions and music all sounded really good.
Recommendation - Bottom line is this has to be in every Blu-Ray collectors collection! |
