Avoid this stocking stuffer...

I agree completley with the person below me, that is exactly how I felt about this movie, I thought this movie was gonna have alot of laughs, I chuckled twice i think... I Just think it was trying way to hard to be funny, im a huge Vince Vaughn fan and he can usually make me laugh about anything... not on this one....

I bought this... mainly cause its the holidays and I tend to by alot of Holiday based movies, I recommend renting this one.. If that....

Vince Vaughn must hate Christmas!!!

Yes, that's right 2 Christmas movies within 2 years and they're both stinkers. Although Four Christmases does have it's moments, few and far between it certainly will NOT go down as a great Christmas classic in the manner of A Christmas Story, It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation or any of the numerous versions of A Christmas Carol. In fact, if I was a betting man I would wager that within 3 years this movie will be nothing more then a footnote in the footnote of the list of Christmas movies (yes, you read that right.) Although it does take place on Christmas this movie offers very little of the Christmas spirit. It's really just about a couple of selfish and pretentious 30something's who are forced to spend Christmas with their families because their flight to Figi gets canceled and then they only do the family thing because everyone of their relatives saw them on the news. Apparently San Francisco only has one channel which would explain why there is so much hate for HD TV's in California. After you see the families you'll understand why the couple would rather go to Figi. This movie is worth a rental only if at that. In fact I would suggest waiting until it shows up on network or cable TV.

For a new movie the PQ and AQ is average and that's about it.

A Misfire...

It's not that "Four Christmases" is a bad movie (well, it is) it’s just that I think its trying way too hard and doesn't know whether to be a comedy or relationship drama. It stars Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as the couple (both with divorced parents) who are forced to endure a Holiday with four different families; each one more eccentric and crazier than the next.

Some movies achieve these unoriginal but high-concept themes rather well. "The Holiday", "Meet the Parents"; heck even Vince Vaughn's romantic dramedy outing "The Break-Up" starring Jennifer Aniston fared off a lot better in the whole relationship analysis department; doing so with an clever grace that while being full of 'aimed-low' sight gags still had one foot grounded in reality.

Four Christmases couldn't be any farther from movies like that. The film is practically one giant sight gag. All of the jokes seem painfully orchestrated to invoke humiliation or laughs that are not very well handled to begin with. For one thing, the comedy is far too specific and gross-out to be appealing to children and too juvenile and broad to appeal to grown-ups. While the film juggles with some straight-forwardly honest scenes about the characters' relationships and struggles, the audience is also forced to sit through a flurry of poorly misguided and painfully obvious gags; which poke fun at everything from pseudo-Christian Christmas pageants, Vaughn's mother's relationship with his childhood friend (who is half her age, yeah; creepy) and the many over-the-top, cliché-ridden caricatures of personalities which pass for being characters in the movie. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but then again maybe not. I think the movie is just poorly written and directed.

All of that would be O.k. had the film handled itself better, but with a horde of screenwriters and a novice director the movie is the very definition of a misfire. To be sure the movie is chalk full of talent. Reese Witherspoon does the very best she can with what she's given, but her character is written as sort of a bitch (sorry, but it’s true). Vince Vaughn does his best shtick like he usually does; that same lovable, neurotic, observant, cynical, sardonic volcano about to erupt who manages to point out every annoying nuance about the people he comes across who are succeeded in obstructing his personal space (yeah, that's the Vince Vaughn we all know and love--some of the time). Jon Favreau of course makes an appearance (what would a Vince Vaughn movie be without him?). Veterans like Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight and Robert Duvall even show up in what are pretty much extended cameos. However, even the actors can't save the poor characterizations and even poorer script.

The movie has its moments but they are few and far between. At the very most this is worth a rent but not a buy. Four Christmases is likely to be forgotten amidst the flurry of Holiday releases. It’s also likely that it won't be shown on television every Christmas. My recommendation, re-rent It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street and A Christmas Story instead. You'll probably get a lot more out of it.

Not a bad X-mas movie.

I thought this movie was really funny specially the part when the baby pukes in Reese. Not the best X-mas movie out there but still funny and enjoyable.

Zeiram Hit The Nail On The Head

There's nothing else I can about the movie itself. I will add that I actually got bored at times. The PQ was wasn't stellar but wasn't bad. The audio was about the same. Nothing stellar here.

In all, I can't even recommend renting it.
