"Bond. James Bond."

This is the blueprint for the Bond movies, every element is there, and a major influence on all action movies. It stands up very well for an action movie, which generally become less exciting as they age. While some of GOLDFINGER is dated it contains genre defining plot, characters, effects, and stunts, that are still enjoyable over 40 years later. Even though we're accustomed to some of these elements this is still a creative take on the genre, especially considering that the hero is captive for most of the movie, and villain goes from being powerless to formidable in one famous scene.

The VIDEO quality is excellent, a very nice 4K transfer, colorful, crisp, and vibrant. The AUDIO is fine but doesn't really stand out. The EXTRAS are contained in a unique menu system. The best are one on the making of the film and one on the pop culture impact of the film. The commentaries are
decent. Some of it, like a collection of highlight scenes, seems unnecessary to me. The disc, menu, and movie, all take a while to load (this could be my player but I doubt it).

This is the first BD case I've scene where sections of plastic are cut out. The case still works fine so if this actually reduces the environmental impact I'm all for it. Though I wonder if the paperboard slipcase is to bolster the plastic case? It would have been nice if Fox/MGM had included a booklet to accompany this singular film.

Another Great Release in the James Bond Series

Once again, I am very impressed with the Blu-ray releases in the James Bond series. I just viewed Goldfinger last night. The picture quality is simply amazing! It is hard to believe that this is a release from 1964. As with some of the earlier Blu-Ray releases (e.g., Dr. No), the picture quality is pristine. The picture is remarkably clean and highly detailed. I marveled at the picture quality in many of the outdoor (and indoor) scenes. In fact, the picture quality of the Bond releases (e.g., Dr. No and Goldfinger) appears more "high definition" than some releases of more current movies.

Goldfinger is highly recommended.

Goldfinger blu-ray is topnotch

Everything about this release is perfect, or very, very close. Most of all, I was shocked at how new and fresh the picture quality appears on this presentation. The PQ is so stunning that this film almost appears to have been shot yesterday as opposed to 1964. The sound is as close to as good, the only deficit is the mid '60's mixing standards. Revisiting this is story is once again thrilling, experiencing THE benchmark Bond movie, the mold for all 007 movies thereafter and the one that has never been surpassed since. On top of that, it's wonderful to see Sean Connery's version of the ultimately cool super-spy again and confirm that all the actors who have attempted the part after him pale in comparison.

Lowry does it again!!

Seriously, this company understands digital film restoration. What improvements you saw with the remastered DVD's, it multiplied with this BD release. Stellar in every sense of the word! There is so much fine detail that is seen with this title, from Bond's terry cloth bathing outfit, to the detailing on Goldfinger's vest to P. Galore's cordouroy jeans, it's all there in this film. While it can't look perfect (some segments were of lesser quality) it does look amazing for a film well over 45! Simply put, there's no way you can be disappointed in the video quality of this film.

Audio-wise, I actually was suprised. The beauty of John Barry's great score is unleashed with this mix. I can't say anything bad about how the score is presented. This remix does bring out the action in the mix, though it can't be thought of on a contemporary scale. The dialogue is top quality throughout.

If you like what they did with DR NO, THUNDERBALL and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, then you'll love what they've done with GOLDFINGER. It will be interesting to see how they do with the other 2 Connery era films. Personally, I can't wait to see what they do with ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE as it's one of their most beautifully shot films.

" Do you expect me to talk Goldfinger, No Mr. Bond, I expect you to di

The second most famous line IMO compared to the absolute best line 'Bond, James Bond" Goldfinger was indeed the biggest box office hit of Connery's run and perhaps because his enemy is just as clever as Bond himself. Goldfinger also has one of the more sexier Bond girls with the infamous name of 'pussy' Galore that is. MGM continues to impress with the digitally enhanced Bond movies. AQ still seems a bit flat considering the early Bond movies are mostly dialoge driven and the action sequences are good but not spectacular. Ofcourse I have to consider the time these movies were filmed in compared to later Bond adventures. But another great title to own on blu.

Goldfinger

I love this movie! Lets start there, I've followed Bond since almost the beginning (I'm old but not that old). My tradition with my father has been to see all these movies together. I've continued this tradition with my son and we have seen the last two together (he's nine).
I have all the series on DVD and as they get released I am replacing them with Blu-ray (the boy gets them).
God this disc is amazing! What else can I say? All the pre Roger Moore disc's are amazing. Picture is second to none. Not sure what happened to the ones after, they seem very washed out and grainy.
Anyway that's my quick two cents.
Get this movie on Blu, you will see how a movie should look like in HD and keep in mind it's over 40 years old!

"WHO ARE YOU. PUSSY GALORE. I MUST BE DREAMING"

This is arguably the best Bond film or top 3 depending on your choice. Everything is there including a great villian, action & hot girls. Once again Lowry has done a masterful job with the transfer. There's so much detail in the images and the colors look wonderful and vibrant just like Dr. No & Thunderball!

The music and dialgoue is clear throughout and Shirley Bassey's classic GOLDFINGER blasting through my speakers in DTS-HD was a real treat!!

Overall if you like Bond (and who doesn't) than this one is a no brainer! Must own!!

Enjoy!!!

VIDEO NOT A 5

Excellent transfer, but definitely not a 5 as the site reviewer indicates. Although significantly imprved over the SD version (one would generally expect this from blu-ray), reference quality it is not.
