Guin Saga: Complete Collection(TV) (2009)
He awakens in the dark forest of a mythical land with some type of leopard mask that he cannot remove. The only thing he remembers is his name - Guin - and that he is a warrior of unimaginable power. And when the two twins of Parros, innocent victims of a civil war arrive, Guin knows what he must do. But the journey to save the children means much more than just slaughtering a few hundred well-trained Mongoul soldiers. Victory means he must battle magical desert tribes, assemble forces that have fought each other for hundreds of hears, and divine a mysterious plan that he is central to. Prepare for a sweeping anime epic of mystery and magic! Of violent clashes and dark double-crosses. Ready yourself for the battle with GUIN SAGA. For more about Guin Saga: Complete Collection and the Guin Saga: Complete Collection Blu-ray release, see the Guin Saga: Complete Collection Blu-ray Review published by Jeffrey Kauffman on May 9, 2012 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.0 out of 5. Director: Atsushi Wakabayashi » See full cast & crew Guin Saga: Complete Collection Blu-ray, Video QualityGuin Saga is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Sentai Filmworks with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1. This is an often breathtaking high definition presentation that features some very well rendered CGI in quasi-3D, with a lot of environments offered in something akin to the old Disney multi-plane technique. Colors are rich and extremely varied, and there are a number of very effective segments bathed in a golden amber color (see some of the screencaps included with this review for some good examples). Character designs are quite well handled, with Guin's leopard mask especially effective. Line detail is strong and sharp throughout this enterprise, and while the animation style sometimes is kind of like live action soft focus, the overall look of this series is very clearly and strongly presented on this Blu-ray set. Guin Saga: Complete Collection Blu-ray, Audio QualityGuin Saga is a series that certainly would have benefited mightily from a lossless surround mix, but instead this Blu- ray features two DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mixes, one in English and one in Japanese. With a series this huge and varied, a surround mix is almost being cried out for, especially since there are action elements aplenty here, as well as a really appealing score. But if you can get past what will probably be at least some minor disappointment with "only" a stereo track, both of the DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 options here offer sterling fidelity and some really nice dynamic range. Both tracks can get a bit busy at times during action sequences, but overall things are presented very crisply and cleanly. I actually preferred the English voice actors to the Japanese voice actors, but both are interesting to at least check out. One nice bonus is the English subtitles that accompany the Japanese audio track are in yellow, making them extremely easy to read no matter what's going on in the background.
