Carl Hamilton once had a family. But it was completely wiped out in an act of revenge, and now the abduction of his 7-year-old goddaughter Nathalie brings back intensely painful memories.<br /><br />
When Nathalie's veiled picture shows up on Internet, it becomes clear that the kidnapping is directed at her mother, Ewa Tanguy, head of the Swedish Security Police. Someone intends to convert her daughter to fundamentalist Islam. As the Swedish authorities remain passive, Hamilton is forced to take action. With the aid of his close friend Mouna, he manages to track down the kidnappers.
