Better story and production than the first
I don't get the complaints on PQ. There was some graininess in darker scenes, but if you paid attention, you could see detailed fibers of the fabrics, grain in the leathers, defects in plaster walls. I thought PQ was very good, and the 5.1 PCM was immersive enough, with crackling flames, power tools, crowds, etc. Finally, the storyline I found to be much more satisfying than the original, and with some interesting twists that became a little bit predictable as you got late into the film. It was slower to develop than the first movie, but character development was also more complete. If you enjoy the gruesome brutality in the first film, you probably were disappointed, but if you enjoyed that, you are probably also a sociopath. If you are not sociopathic, you may simply miss out on the disturbing feeling you get from the first film, and this is how my wife felt about it. She was disappointed in the absence feeling disturbed. I was not.
The only extras I watched were deleted scenes and outtakes. I found it highly satisfying that each scene came with an explanation of why it was removed. This is why I gave extras a 4.5. Outtakes were not very contributory.
To summarize, I think that this is not as much of a violent, creepy thriller as the Hostel 1, but I think it was a better story and an overall more satisfying cinematic experience than the first. |

Kinda dissappointed
film was very grainy and the extras..well there really was nothing there. Granted theres not much you can do for this film but I dont really think they tried very hard. Overall kind of a dissapointment but I still loved the film. |

BETTER THAN THE FIRST MOVIE!!
Loved hostel 2. It blew away the first movie. Mainly because this second movie had a plot. The characters weren't stupid or horny americans. They were real people. I thought the picture quality was outstanding. I dont understand all the hate for it. Its a dark transfer with grain, but it really sets the mood for the movie. |

Hostel Part II Should of Never Been A Part
I cut it at the first one, that was even a bit hard to like. This was just passing the line on stupidity. It focused on violence leaving no room for characters, humor, fun, or any entertainment. This was boring and felt like hours, when it was only around an hour and a half. The video was pretty good, the audio could of been a lot better. The extras were decent, but should of been packed like the first one. Overall, this disc is not even worth the time. Worth a rent for torture fans only. |

Better than the first but not much of blu ray quality
The movie has no plot and it's all about the violence and the nudity but i thought it was better than the first trite. I found Hostel 2 more enjoyable and entertaining, the first one was boring, had way too much unnecessary nudity and on top of that, the first 40 min. was porn. The PQ is nothing special at all, i was disappointed because i expecting more from it but it was very grainy and the movie had a dull, washed out look to it. It wasn't too bad because the PQ fit the movie's theme of claustrophobic, intense feel to it. The AQ was good, uncompressed is always the way to go, but i thought the track didn't give the big bang, but it was good. Overall, the movie is weird and the blu ray quality is below average...id say give this a rent before you purchase, kind of half and half thoughts on it. |

A huge improvement over Hostel, but still not perfect.
Not as grisly, gory or scary as the original, but it is slightly more well-made and has nowhere near as much flaws as Hostel did. Fortunately, they took out the things I really hated in the first film: sex and drugs, and just focused on being a straight, gory horror film.
But what a horrible transfer. The video is easily the worst quality I've ever seen on a BD. Honestly, you might as well just buy the DVD if you prefer a more consistent image. |

The Elite Hunting Company!
Horror movies or gratuitous violence is not top of my agenda, however there was something I liked about Hostel that drew me to Hostel Part II, similar to what drew me to the Saw series of films. After disounting the plot and quality of acting as the reason I was drawn to Hostel II, I think it must be the concept of the Elite Hunting Company and also the detail that goes into the torture chambers from the vast array of torture devices to the close attention paid to the torturers characters. It wasnt the wincing away from the torture scenes that really bothered me it was the idea of the EHC that got me thinking and interested in the movies.
I thought the torture room scenes were very well shot and my system was displaying these scences of unimaginable horror brilliantly, every facial expression was crystal clear. Unfortunately my Movie score of 2.5 is based on these scenes alone and the intersting twist at the end as the rest of the moive is a non-event. Overall a halfway house of a movie. |

Typical Sequel
Eli Roth will be the first to admit that Hostel 2 was not exactly what he planned on. However, overall..this film is not a complete flop. It goes into further detail about the business aspect of the grisly operation. The video was grainy, which has been duely noted on most reviews. Yet, not as bad as some say. |

Decent movie, Disappointing video quality.
The film quality was very grainy. That's really all you need to know about that.
As far as the movie itself. It was a lot better than the first. Had a much more serious tone. I think that it really showed more of the business side of the whole thing. It puts into perspective what they do. How they choose their people and what kind of people are the killers.
I think the most controversial aspect is that it makes you think, that the people who kill are normal people like me or you who are looking for a thrill out of life. It almost makes it seems like instead of a vacation or a trip somewhere, bored mid aged people with money to afford it are looking for a different experience in life.
It almost doesn't seem too far fetched either. People going through a mid life crisis can be some of the most desperate and crazy people in the world. You probably know what I mean. I think this whole aspect of the movie makes sense and probably adds the most drama and subject to the film.
Overall the movie delivers to show enough gore and torture to leave you fairly satified that you saw what you were expecting.
But as far as the Blu ray quality, pretty poor. Way too grainy. |
