Parillaud punk'd
La Femme Nikita is the first of Besson's excellent assassin flicks, followed up by The Professional(Leon). The story revolves around Nikita, a convict sentenced to life imprisonment, who is given a second chance. She undergoes a complete metamorphosis as she becomes a hired gun for the French government. The film then follows her relationships after being released and the assignments that she is given, culminating in a final mission to steal documents from an ambassador that introduces Jean Reno's character of The Cleaner. It's is a terrificly poignant action flick for an era that often endorsed explosions over emotions.
The transfer on this disc is inconsistent. There are many scenes that far exceeded my expectations and others that really showed their age. The sound was also very well rendered and the score from Eric Serra occasionally envelops. I can't confirm, but apparently the english language dub is terrible. |

Still holds up after all these years
Wow this movie looked a lot better than what I was expecting! I thought the video was very nice considering the movies age and the fact that it's not one of those blockbuster releases. I've seen this on vhs about a dozen times in the past so I was very happy with the quality of this blu-ray release
I hope "Leon" gets this kind of treatment |

Classic....
La Femme Nikita is a great piece of work; I’ve always enjoyed it and was very happy to hear it was coming out on blu. It was made in 1990 so I wasn’t expecting a perfect transfer or anything, but at points I was a little disappointed. The PQ varies, sometimes it’s very clean and other times you’ll see quite a bit of grain. The AQ is good, but I wouldn’t recommend watching the move in English dub. It takes away from the feel and style of the film. There are no real extras, just a few movie previews. All in all it’s a great movie and I’m very happy I bought it…… |

Not Unhappy At All
I'd seen the film in theatres at least five times over the years and have always loved this film. It held up very well on Blu. I can't say the AQ/PQ is exactly reference quality but it's darn good. I did notice things in both the P & Q that I never noticed before and that's always a plus. The suppliments were the worst, none to speak of. A film that has so admirably achieved cult status outside of France warranted at least a "making of..." and/or actor reminicences, something. But maybe this is typical of French releases on Blu. Sadly since I was with my g/f who refuses to "read movies" I was forced to listen to it with the English dub. It wasn't horrible I must say, but all those voice-over voices sound so familiar now. Overall I'm glad I own it and look forward to seeing it prolly at least once a year!
I am hoping for a more reference quality PQ/AQ and a BUNCH of extras for the phenominal Besson CLASSIC "Leon".....I hope someone's listening! |

"MISTER IS THIS HEAVEN HERE OR NOT?"
Very good stylish European action film. I never saw it one it came out originally for some reason but heard a lot of good things about it over the last 19 years.
Luc Besson has a very unique directing style that suits action films perfectly.
The entire cast was great and the locations looked good in high def.
The transfer isn't reference quality but for a film from that era overall it looks and sounds pretty good!
If your an action fan than this is a good rental or purchase on sale
