Very good video/sound transfer
Very good job done on restoration and transfer, looks like they have used every bit of material they got. This 1973 film looks better than some modern transfers to blu-ray. Glad I have replaced my DVD with it. |

Vast improvement
I have to admit I was stunned by the video on this one. I did not expect the colors to be as bold and the picture to be as sharp as it is. It's an amazing job, however it's not perfect. While you can see it's been digital restored, there are some problematic scenes that look soft or the picture looks "blown out" where the colors are matching. Fortunately that occurs only in certain spots. I also noticed some pixelation which I rarely see on any BD's but I noticed it on this title which is a bit suprising.
Now the audio blew me away!!!
Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it sounds like a modern soundtrack. There are certainly moments in the film that lacked "umph", however the ambience was there throughout the film and didn't sound as harsh as I expected it could. What can I say about the score? Never before has the beauty of George Martin's score been heard like this!! I could pick out fine detail of the orchestra and even the title song had an amazing presence with great detail. |

One of my favs
I must say that the video looked much better than the DVD that I had. Everything was crisp and
detailed. I was disappointed in the sound I must say. It did not really jump out at me and seemed
sort of muted in a way. I am a McCartney fan and the theme song did not have the power and punch
I was expecting. But still, a must have in any collection. |

My favorite Bond ever in a great Transfer
Plot:
3 Agents of MI6 are killed nearly simultaneously, so their best man, 007 (Roger Moore) is sent out to investigate. During his investigation he comes across Dr. Kanaga, a Island Diplomat who is growing more than corn on his island. A beautiful card Reader (a very young Jane Seymour) and of course several villains. The rest of the movie needs no explaining as every film fan is sure to have seen this one.
PQ: Of the recently released Bond Box I have only seen "Thunderball" and this one. I have to say that they didn't do as good a Restoration on this on as they did with "Thunderball". There are times when there is a lot of video noise and grain, particularly during darker scenes. Still these times a few but noticeable. Aside from that the picture looks great, the colors a vivid and the edges razor sharp. Even though I think there wasn't a lot of Edge Enhancement done.
SQ: Despite having been released originally in mono this movie gives you a living soundfield. Whenever the movie takes you outside there are environment noises in the rear. (Which wasn't so much the case with "Thunderball".). Dialogue is crisp clear. LFE is only employed in a few scenes and then not too much. There are even some soundpans in this movie. I actually don't know how they pulled this off, having a mono source, but they did it very well. It really gives you a 3 dimensional feeling as even some new movies don't do that well. If you consider that this movie had it's 35th anniversary this year I think that's a great achievement.
Summary: This being my favorite Bond movie ever it's hard for me to be objective. As I mentioned in my PQ Section the Picture wasn't quite as good as in "Thunderball" but still great considering the age of the movie. The sound is as good is it will ever get. The only letdown are the extras. I've seen them 3 times now. First on the regular DVD, then on the ultimate Edition and now once again on the Blu. It would have been nice if they had done a piece about the restoration process of these movies.
Still, my advice: Go out and buy the new Bond Box (which Includes Volumes 1&2). I am sure Volumes 3&4 won't take long to arrive. They managed to pack 6 of the best Bond movies ever in this package. Except for "For your Eyes only". That one's rather dull. Back to this movie specifically. I don't know why I love it so, it just has everything. Great action, some romance, witty dialogue and of course a memorable villain. Finally it has the best Theme Song of all the Bond Movies. What more do you want? If you are not a fan of some of the other movies, just order this one, you won't be disappointed. |

interesting
Craig is a great Bond for the modern times, but looking back Rodger Moore is, in my opinion the coolest. Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond flick, 1973 Harlem, New Orleans and voodoo. Some say its the weirdest bond flick, it probably is, but one of the coolest as well. |

Entertaining but pretty campy stuff
There is no way that the pq on this movie could rate anything lower than a 5.0!!! Honestly a remarkable job in restoring...beautiful! The aq was outstanding too..crystal clear. This is what HD is all about. Cheers to the guys at restoration
Now the movie review is a completely different story... |

Cab Bond get any worse than this?
With so many Bond films it is inevitable that there will some great ones, (Goldfinger), and some trash. Live and let die in my view is about as low as the series ever got. Roger Moore portrays Bond as almost an imbecile only surviving because magic and the CIA are watching his back. This is certainly not the way Fleming thought of Bond and I am sure the tough Connery / Craig formula is what the audience are really after. Roger Moore's later performances were all better than this. Almost none of the situations in this farce are believable and the whole thing is just so inept it quickly becomes irritating. The story is so implausible it even sinks below the spoof Casino Royale! This is one Bond you can give a miss to. The Blu ray is however well done and if you must have this trash, (an insult to the series in my opinion), then go for it. |

The name is Moore, Roger Moore.......................................
Connery was out, Lazenby was in, but wait Sean came back for one final swan song, then who could play the World's greatest secret agent? None other then The Saint himself...Roger Moore.
Moore's debut as 007 was welcomed with open arms and a new legacy for the character was born. Moore's take on Bond was the more swave, smooth talking getting laid all the time Bond, whereas Connery's was the rugged, tough guy Bond, who still got laid from time to time. Live and Let Die moves at a snails pace as Bond tries to talk his way into everything. The action shows up towards the end of the picture but even so this was another worthy entry into the long running series. MGM once again top notch on PQ and a little more active AQ this time around compared to Connery's instalments. Extra's are full blown as these continue to inform and entertain. |
