Blu-Indie!

Movie:
Pretty good. I've seen this twice before, long ago when it first came out and it's definitely one I don't get bored with watching again. The film is in reverse order, if you're into that kind of thing (I am). It makes it more interesting and lets the viewer put the puzzle together in his or her mind. Very underrated, but it's an excellent filck.

Video:
Sony, sony sony.... when will you learn not to make MPEG-2 encoded discs. Actually, the transfer isn't all that bad. Blacks are dark, as "flashbacks" (if you wish to call them that) are filmed in black and white and whites are pretty solid. Colors are not as vibrant as Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, but they get the job done and they set the tone of the film. The video stays away from being "blocky" and there is minimal grain, except where the filmmaker intends.

Audio:
Nothing special. I watched it with the PCM 5.1 soundtrack and, for an indie film, it does what it's supposed to.

Extras:
Thank's sony for a featurette. *sigh* Don't buy the disc for the extras.

Overall, the film is a good investment on blu-ray, unless you previously own the DVD. In that case, upgrading is not necessary. Recommended for first-time buyers only. (Note: On the 2-disc special edition DVD, it is possible to watch the film in chronological order via Easter Egg. This feature is omitted in the blu-ray version)

Great storyline

I have never seen a movie filmed in this style and it turned out to be great as the pieces fell in place as the movie progressed. Video and audio were good in my opinion.

One of the my 10 of all time!!

Ok, first off, this a top-10 all time of mine. Christopher Nolan is genius, with everything from the memory loss to the use of color/black+white for the story/documentary style, and he puts you in Lenny's head by going backwards in time (ie. you don't ever know what just happened, as Lenny). The PQ is great, but not POTC quality. The PCM sound quality was also great, but not in the 4.5-5 club, but overall i was VERY Satisfied with this blu-ray, particularly as it is a top-10 of all time for me....I understand some people don't like it b/c they found it confusing, I loved because it challenged me...to each their own i guess

One Cool Flick

Guy Pearce did a great job at playing such a wierd roll. This movie falls into one of my favorites. You got a plot thats jumps around a lot so be patient, sit down and relax and it all comes together. It reminds you of an older P.T. Anderson movie but with a lot more repeats in the story line. Watch it now.

One of Chris Nolan's masterpieces

This is a very unique movie that you really have to pay attention to from start to finish. It's the type of movie that might require a couple viewing to fully understand and figure out the plot. The movie that this sort of reminds me of and I also had to watch multiple times was the movie Snatch.

Overall though this is just a brilliant movie and one of Chris Nolan's masterpieces along with: The Prestige, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight.

"I have to believe in a world outside my own mind."

From start to finish (or rather, from finish to start), this movie turned out to be incredibly mesmerizing, stylish, and thought-provoking. At this point, I consider it one of the best drama/thriller/neo-noir movies ever made.

Despite the fact that the story is told in reverse, it's not too confusing at all; the plot moves at a good pace and makes a lot of sense, as long as you pay attention. The visual style and photography (which are excellent) plays a major role in the story's development (black-and-white scenes show what happened prior to the movie's events, while color scenes show the present, for example). The writing and acting are top-notch. Production design (props, costumes, sets) is excellent. Music is good.

The disc looks phenomenally clear, clean, and sharp to me; maybe a bit grainy, but I was pleased with the video quality. Sound is good. Includes a featurette as a special feature, but there is a 2-disc DVD avaliable which may have more on it (I'm not sure, because the DVD actually has a bizzare menu system and I haven't fully explored it yet. But I held onto it, partly to see if there is more, and partly because it had a cool cover).

What a fantastic mind-twister

I thought the movie looked very good in High-def. Lots of detail and blacks looked nice. well worth buying if you love the movie.
This movie cannot be watched only once..it demands repeat viewings to really be enjoyed

Great movie, Nolan is a genius!!

Ironic that I watch this film just the other weekend. It fell into my Netflix queue.

It had been a while since I originally saw the film. It had the distinction of being the first film told backwards (that I know of). It's films like this, Prestige and Insonmia along with the Batman films that shows why Nolan is a narrative genius. The man simply knows how to tell a story. Great performances from all the principles.

I wasn't expecting much from the video, however once you get past some rough patches it's generally better than I was expecting. Skintones and colors seemed fairly accurate and the film was generally sharp.

The PCM isn't spectacular but it is a bit above a typical drama soundtrack. Dialogue was excellent and the moments where surrounds were used were appropriate.

Overall good disc.

Chris Nolan's Sophomore Masterpiece!

I have seen "Memento" several times in an attempt to dissect and analyze its intricate plot and fractured storytelling techniques. It seems the more I try to unravel it the more questions I have. Call me a slow learner but the movie never fails to totally confuse me. But I suppose that is part of its charm. Memento works much like the fractured memories of it's hero, going back and forth through time and juggling a series of perplexing ideas until we the audience (like the hero) prey victim to the symptoms of memory loss itself.

This is part of the dramatic power of the movie. Memento forces us to question what is truly important in life. What are the sums of memories and indeed what importance do we place on the relationships of those we encounter? And yet, somehow the story always seems to be moving forward, the main character always learning and growing, the mystery more intriguing as it goes along. This is Memento's greatest achievement. As a perplexing drama that achieves more than simply thrills; it makes us think.

Guy Pierce does a terrific job of playing a guy who doesn't quite know where his footing is; deciphering between those on his side and those who are against him. Nolan achieves this with a compelling script that is full of narration, black and white imagery (signaling past time) and progression into the future by presenting us with unfinished scenes. Scenes which achieve more clarity as their pieces begin to unravel with the passage of time. As a result we gain the information that led to each of the film's key conflicts, thus impacting the power of the drama as it moves inevitably toward a striking conclusion.

Memento is an often violent film, chalk full of profanity, double-crosses, and mistaken identities and even romance. Suffice it to say, this is not a fluffy or trite film. It's full of serious subject matter, abundant ideas and fast paced, frenetic storytelling. With a budget of roughly 4 1/2 million dollars, Memento is elegantly shot and looks like a movie that costs four times that amount. It displays some of Nolan's early film making genius, which he would put to good use in the Batman revivals. This is a movie I will be revisiting time and time again.

Nolan's Masterpiece

I hate it when Christopher Nolan's name is brought up and immediately either The Dark Knight or Batman Begins will be the topic of discussion. This is the movie that should be associated with Nolan's name (if not this then The Prestige) Every aspect of this film is astounding; the writing, the cinematography, Guy Pierce's acting, and just the sequence the film is told. I agree with the person that said that this film feels like a PTA work. Some people I talk to find this film confusing, but this is one of those movies that you'll think about hours, days, weeks after the last time you seen it which is what a great film does.

One of a kind

It truly is a masterpiece! Never has a film taken this route before (irreversible comes close) but Memento is truly one a kind keeping you on the edge of your seat as the plot slowly unravels enough clues to you to put together the pieces. More importantly it shows the viewer a interesting perspetive of short term memory loss. Guy Pierce gives a great performance along with the supporting cast as you see how the characthers impact one another as the film progresses.

The video quality is similar to that of Batman Begins... Its good, and solid but you get the feeling it could be alot better. The audio is decent as well and the extras are lacking.

Overall Memento is an amazing movie experience that takes more than one viewing to fully grasp the concept and you find something new everytime you watch.

Great Movie

I love this transfer it's sharp and holds up really good with the newer blu-ray releases.

The Audio was great every time there was a gun shot or tires screeching everyone in the room (except me of course) covered there ears and said "it's too loud" but i just laughed and enjoyed my theater experience. Good disc good movie highly recommended.

Confusing, but interesting

This movie attempts to convey the confusion in the mind of a man with a short-term memory deficit disorder. As such, it is very confusing. But it is also quite interesting as you are allowed to see how the bits of short-term memory that was lost have contributed to the current sitiuation. The movie starts at the chronological end, and then shows segments in reverse sequence that "explain" the situation.
My wife just got frustrated after about 15 minurtes and went to sleep. I got interested and stayed up to the end. It was quite interesting, but the end left me unsatisfied.

Picture quality is pretty good; lower than some for Blu-ray, but good enough to justify seeing on Blu-ray.
Overall, a weak "positive" recommendation. It was entertaining.

Interesting Movie

This movie is really different and unique. It's not one of my favorites, but it's not bad either. The video
was okay. It was after all released in 2006 when Blu-ray was fresh out the oven. I'd say the audio
was mediocre. There's like three previews, a commentary, and the anatomy of a scene and that's it
for extras. It was pretty good. I would rent before purchasing though.

This Movie Is Not Cool!

I have seen as many movies or more as the next person, but only a few are as crappy as this. Maybe it was the time of day, or just my mood, but I was extremely disappointed. The film's only upside is the way it was directed and written, but it may leave you feeling one of two ways; confused or you don't care about the ending! Watch it if you are curious, but if not don't waste your life.
