Awesome transfer, fun Bond movie

One of the more derided and the least serious of the Bond films, I still enjoy it pretty much. Obviously influenced by the Star Wars craze at the time, Bond gets to go to the most exotic locale of all this time...Space! Yeah, it's totally silly, but the special effects are actually pretty damn good for the time and it's a lot of fun. Great action sequences, tons of beautiful women and Jaws is back. What more could you ask for!

The picture quality on this disc is pretty amazing. As mentioned before kudos to Lowry for the Bond restorations again. Right from the opening skydive scene, detail is readily apparent as you can easily pick out trees and objects on the ground as they are flying around. Colors are deep and rich, with minimal noise. Beautiful scenery on Earth and the space station scenes are richly detailed.

Audio sounds a little processed and the bass isn't exceptional, but it's pretty decent for a 30 year old film.

Didn't delve into the extras that much, but they are pretty plentiful and carried over from the previous excellent DVD sets. The scene selection menu is probably the fastest I've seen for Java.

If you even like this Bond flick a smidgen, the transfer alone makes it worth the purchase. And it may help you enjoy the movie a bit more this time around!

Stunning PQ; Some of the best I've ever seen on Blu

Yes, the movie is a little campy, and not as serious as other Bond flicks. But this is definitely one of my all time favorites. I'm sure by now, you've read about the story an endless number of times, so I'll just comment on the PQ.

In one word: stunning. Sitting there watching, things looked very 3D. I felt like I was right there, sitting across from Bond himself. Colors were extremely rich and vibrant, the image was razor sharp and crystal clear. Seriously, this transfer easily beats out many of the recent movies that have also come out on Blu.

I was very surprised, but this transfer is definitely one of my favorites. If you want to showcase the awesome power of Blu, you can't go wrong with this film.

Skywalker Luke.....I mean Bond....James Bond.

This is the 4th Blu-Ray Bond film I've seen, and PQ wise the best of the 4. The other 3 are "Dr No" "From Russia With love" and "Goldfinger". Moonraker maintains a nice detailed picture throughout the film, with nice color. No complaints about audio, it's probably about as good as it can get for it's age.

Though not a favorite for many Bond fans, I still found it entertaining, and amusing in some parts. The disc is worthy of a buy.

Looks fantastic on Blu

Not one of my personal fave Bond's but still very entertaining. Now I honestly don't know how anybody could possible complain about the quality of the picture and audio! The blacks are awesome and the colors very vibrant and also the picture is amazingly sharp and detailed for an older movie. Nice job!!
I was very lucky to get this one on sale at FS for 10bucks

Other studios take note

Being a big bond fan, this isn't one of the best overall movies, but still has some good "bond" moments. With saying that, keeping in mind this film was made in 1979 the pq is unbelievably amazing with the sq not far behind. Mgm has done an amazing job with the bond movies on blue ray. I don't understand why movies released recently on blue ray by other studios can't be released like the bond films as far as pq. Can't wait for the rest of the bonds to come out, especialy if these first releases are the standard for the rest, makes you realize how good blue ray can be.

Did you break something? No just my tailors heart

All I can say is wow! The Lowery Process is top notch again with the restoration of this strange but fun Bond movie. Skin tones were somewhat pasty and pale for the first few minutes I thought but got more realistic after that. Sound again was very good for such an old movie, not as much LFE as I would have preffered but still satisfying. Moonraker is not your average Bond movie but is enjoyable to even the most die hard fan. Recommended!

This Movie...

This movie rocks. I see that second amendment rights (here in the U.S.) don't apply on this site, as I criticized the reviewer for his stupid opinions, and my original post is gone. I've rated everything 5.0 since my opinion is so unpopular. I'm also anti-gay marriage... There is no missing scene. The "missing" scene that toothless_farmer speaks of is in "The Spy Who Loved Me."

Looked great, still sucked!!

This was the first Bond film I saw theatrically. I remember coming out of the theater feeling this was the best Bond ever!! Oh well the innocence of an 18 yr old mind. Fortunately my mind and tastes developed afterwards.

If there was any film in the Bond canon that exceeded excess, it's this film. Taking the James Bond of the Fleming novels and turning him into a shadow of that character, this film aims for new highs but instead finds new lows. I guess per Cubby Brocolli's edict, they wanted to make Bond bigger and better and given the Star Wars craze at the time, I guess it's only natural they wanted to put Bond in space. Too bad their intentions didn't make a good movie.

Stunned, that's how I felt about the video. You will never see MOONRAKER look this sharp or this colorful anywhere. Lowry is to be given plaudits cause if you didn't know better, you wouldn't think this film is from 1979. I really cannot find any fault with this picture, just know that it's not possible to look like today's film stock but it comes damn close!

Outside of the chance to hear John Barry's last great Bond score, there's really not much going on with the audio outside of it being very clear, however the mix itself sounds compressed.

James Bond Comedy

Moonraker is a fun action-packed 007 comedy. One can clearly see this as a prequel to the Austin Powers films which were 007 parodies made decades after Moonraker.

My goodness, even the sexy CIA agent is named Doctor Goodhead (LOL!).

I love this movie for the laughs alone. Definitely worth having on blu-ray.

Space now belongs to 007................

Cashing in only on the heals of Star Wars, the producers of the Bond franchise were at a loss of what to do with thier spy next. Why not space? Moonraker starts off like typical Bond venture but turns so cheesy once James discoveres Drax's other hideout with six other moonraker ships ready to blast off. Oh and the very vague one liner from Q at the end " I believe he's beginning re-entry sir" classic cheese. Yet another fantastic looking Bond on blu. Strong PQ and mid level AQ along with all the bells and whistles of extra's. James Bond on Blu will return.

Well...

It's silly, for the most part, and easily the worst Bond film of the entire series. Still, it's sorta fun and rather entertaining, too. I like the first half and usually try to just cringe through the absurd parts later. Video is good as is the audio. I'm a Bond collector so it's a must. If I wasn't, however, there would be no way this film would sit on my shelf!

Scene missing!!!

I noticed this version has a scene cut from it - in the original version, immediately after Bond leaves Drax and Drax dismisses a girl (Corinne Dufour?) and the arrival of Bond in Venice, there's a scene in the MI6 headquarters with the presence of M and Q, in which Q deduces that the word ORATORY present on the drawings Bond had stolen from Drax is in fact 'LABORATORY' - this BD (or, at least, the one from my Bond Volume 3 collection - I presume they are the same, aren't they) jumps directly from the Drax scene to the Venice scene, leaving the reason as to why Bond went to Venice in the first place out of the movie!
I like Moonraker very much, but this cutting makes me think: why I bought it?

Worse than Man with the Golden Gun? Give me a break! At least Moonraker takes you to some of the most intersting locals!
