Quarantine

Quarantine is a very intense and scary horror flick that keeps you spooked till the end. The idea is simple, a news crew follows the fire department to a call when all hell breaks loose in a small apartment complex but the way it is filmed (hand-held style ala Cloverfield or Blair Witch) is highly effective at creating a tense atmosphere and it really works well for this movie. While it does draw comparisons to "Cloverfield", I felt the camera was a lot more stable and unlike Clover where I felt a little sick afterwards, Quarantine doesn't. The acting is alright, it can be a little over the top but I liked Carpenter; she did a good job at showing the fear. Overall, Quarantine is great horror movie, it provides lots of chills and thrills and the outcome of the events are pretty terrifying. I didn’t really expect much for the disc considering it was filmed hand-held style but I have to say I was pleased with the quality of the PQ. It is a very dark movie with little to no lighting in some scenes but the transfer handles it well. Colors & skin tones are very natural and detail was quite good with only a few scenes having softness, mainly the running shots. Dark scenes don’t really suffer any lack of detail or depth and overall, the image was pretty sharp with no grain really. The audio is also very good; the back speakers are used frequently and dialogue is front and clear. The sub doesn’t get a massive work out but it comes alive from time to time and I was happy with the atmosphere it created all around you. Extras are kind lacking, there’s a commentary and two BTS features but none of really fantastic. I wish there was more info on how they adapted it from “REC” and more features on the back story behind the plot. Overall, Quarantine is a haunting and very entertaining horror movie with plenty of gore and an interesting style & premise to it. The transfer is really good as is the audio and extras are suitable so in the end, I would say Quarantine is a solid buy for any horror or “Cloverfield” fan.

freaking scary

Although there are plotholes, Quarantine gets its job done very well! i was pleased to see how good this was thinking it was a Cloverfield rip-off. It was clautrophobic and intense, i was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The PQ was very good, i saw no artifact compressions what-so-ever, the camera does look hazy but the movie is shown from a handheld camera so i would expect it to be not perfect, but it was very good detail for that type of camera. The AQ was amazingly realistic, when the infected runs at you and screams, it sounds so real and the gunshots were very good. The dialogue sounds good and the scare scenes are extremely effective thanks to the AQ. For a good scare, check it out!

Great Survival Flick

If you like the genre, you'll like this one. Well made. It won't be winning an Academy, but what respectable survival horror ever will?

It's all about entertainment, and this is quite entertaining for the genre.

WOW!

Seeing this movie in the theater was just great. The scares were unpredictable and flat out creepy. Yet, I thought this movie wasn't going to be scary on dvd/blue ray. I was wrong! I jumped so many times, even on a small screen television. I highly hope you will buy this dvd and expierence the fear for yourself!

One of the scariest of 2008

Really loved this film. I was always a big fan of Jennifer Carpentar so it was a great suprise to see her in this film. I must say she really stole the movie. Because of her, I think the movie felt so realistic. PQ was very sharp and clear. Audio was a little disapointing, i found it to be a little low in certain parts of the movie. Extras were interesting if you enjoyed the film.

inavative high octane thriller!!

wooo what a movie jennifer carpenter plays a solid lead role of the scared reporter in a quarintined run down apartment building, audio and visual are among the best there is on blu ray. All and all i would suggest this as a must buy for fans of zombie flicks but be aware that there are limited extras so if you buy it buy it for the re playibility of the film and not for the special features.

You Will Be Afraid To Be Quarantined

This movie was actually pretty good. Jennifer Carpenter gave another brilliant performance and the movie kept close to the original, which was good. The video quality was pretty good, but not excellent. The audio was really rich and sounded like real life. The extras on the disc were alright, but could of been much better. Overall, this movie was pretty good, but I was really mad when the brilliant ending was showed in the commercial, which ruined it from everyone. Including that the ending is the cover, as well. This is one to see, but I recommend to see [REC] first, since it is much better. Recommended.

I liked this film

Went to see Ghost Town in the theatres and that movie was so INSIPIDLY bad we turned right around and on a whim bought tickets for this film because we needed a fun, popcorn movie with violence and horror. And we got what we wanted.

A good plague, zombie movie that was fast, concise and scary.

Not a bad purchase if you are a zombie fan, predictable but pretty gruesome.

Don't believe the hype!

This film wasn't all that bad. On the same token it wasn't a classic. This film has been done before. The story was Ripping off (28 days later) (28 weeks later) some what of (I am Legend) The idea of the camera angle was taken from (Cloverfield) I do have to say that Quarantine's camera angle was a lot more enjoyable then (Cloverfield's) It was way more intense and nerve racking. The story was a little altered. Instead of a complete country being infected. It was a single build that was infected. Which is more terrifying be trapped in close quarters with the infected. The Story like every typical Horror. Way to predictable. Which brought no shocking surprise elements. Despite it's predictable story and element of surprise. The film had a creepy feel. I was more frustrated with the lack of intelligence and it's typical Horror air headed characters. four law officials had no clue what was going on. until a veterinary pointed out the infection. even then there were still in disbelief. leaving me Frustrated, tense and anxious through out the movie. sort of whelming with an intensified anxiety emotion. Maybe that's what this film was aiming for. Instead of it's typical Horror, if so I'd give it more credit that it deserves. But I still think it could've been a lot better.

PQ- Believe it or not! This film was a Blu ray quality. good visual through out the film very consistent with color and detail and the frame rate very smooth. made the movie that much more enjoyable.

AQ- great sound. love how it would blanket you with it's echo hall sounds. giving you that front row seat feel as if you were a part of the motion picture it self.

Overall it's a decent film. I went into this movie with low exception. I was entertained threw the movie. But if I had read all the hyped reviews before I watched it. Boy! I would've been very disappointed. it's mediocre just as they showed on the previews. definitely worthy rental. purchasable only for horror fan based.

1st blu i want to resell after watching

First off this is another American interpretation of Japanese horror. The original movie was called [REC].

Basically as other have mentioned a news crew is doing a story where they follow the LA fire department around for 1 night. After 10 mins or so of hanging out at the FD and getting to know the 2 fire fighters the 2 person news crew is going to be taging along with they are called out to an apartment building thinking it is a medical emergency. Done in the cinematography style of "Cloverfeild" the news crew camera man follows the action around and quite often gets in the way of the police and fire fighters as they attempt to restore order and figure out what is going on.

Soon after the FD and crew show up EVERYONE inside even the 2 officers and 2 fire fighters are "quarantine" inside the building. The government has placed the building on lock down. Meanwhile people inside start to turn on each other if not from being suppressed in such tight quarters, its because they do not trust who is "infected" or not. OR its because they have been bitten by another person with this "rabies disease" that spreads in mins not weeks.

Over all I found this movie not scary. But I guess since being a horror fan since 5 yrs old my standards might be a bit higher then others. Half the time I couldn't see the action because the camera man was moving the camera around too fast or it wasn't in focus. Everyone also kept all the lights off. This means that the lights on the helmets of the FD crew and the flashlights of the police and the light on the news crew camera was the only source of light except for the main entrance on the 1st floor where everyone was forced to gather.

Video quality was good when I could see what was going on in the scenes with proper lighting.

Sound was pretty decent as far as surround sound goes. Story line well it was a remake so what works once should work again like a cover song. Its just I feel this team who threw this movie together somewhere dropped the ball.

Extras I didn't bother to view so I am marking it NA

In the end if you scare easy or are a horror lightweight you will proably enjoy this. If you are a die hard horror fan looking for something new to own- you might be disappointed as I was.

Um, once again I can't think of any lines...so..."AHHHH!!!!!"

Agh, there's nothing more gaudy and unnerving than a movie made to look like a camcorder recording. "Cloverfield," "Blair Witch Project," and "Open Water," are all hideous in my opinion. I wasn't expecting much out of "Quarantine," but I was surprised to find that it's really not so bad, especially when compared to these other titles.

It's a simple story, with an interesting premise (although some folks may think it's really absurd). The plot moves pretty slowly; a little too slow at some parts. The ending is a bit dissapointing (heck, you would have seen it already if you've seen the trailer, so the shock value there is lost). The characters are not very well-developed, but they have their moments (especially at the beginning, where everybody is introduced), and the acting and writing are not bad. Photography is...well...shaky and amateur-ish, but in this case, the camera movements are smooth enough to show the action; some camera movements are set up in a good way to really showcase some of the more shocking moments (like when the guy falls down the stairwell). Production design (sets, props, costumes, creature effects) is good. There is no music in this movie, as I recall.

The disc has excellent video and sound quality, for all intents and purposes. Even though the video is made to look amateur-ish, it still has good color, contrast, cleanliness, and sharpness. Sound quality is good. Includes some extras.

Awesome flick!

I was really surprised how well this movie was filmed. Their are so many cool element that happen during the movie. Weird camera angles and blurry scenes that just add to the tension since even you cant make out what your seeing. The sound quality is really good using all 5 channels to get effect. I must have heard those helicopters flying around the quarantined building at least a dozen times during the movie. That just adds to the overall realism. I hope they do a sequel based on REC 2

the pole hole

I really really liked this movie. It's one of the creepiest ones I have seen. Shot in style of a personal camera does this film good. PQ and AQ were excellent, I rarely buy blus with subpar audio. The part with the old woman just standing there screeching gave me goosebumps. Very dark atmosphere and you felt like you was learning along with everybody else. Great movie!!!!

Ok, I can take a breath!!

Cuz` I couldn't throughout this entire movie...

I just loved this movie, from beginning to end it was very intense and kept you on
the edge of your seat.

Just like Cloverfield, this movie is filmed in the perspective of the cameraman. Unlike
Cloverfield in which the cameraman was portrayed as one of their buddies with a
small consumer camera, the Quarantine cameraman is a news cameraman who
would be shouldering a larger, more sturdy camera and handled by someone who
knew what they were doing. The point of this is that it is this difference that makes
Cloverfield much more bumpy and shaky, I prefer the view in Quarantine, but both
were portrayed very well. The fact that when you watch the movie you feel like you
are there with all of them is awesome ... how the cameraman is running around,
people are bumping into him, he is sometimes blocked by other so we can't exactly
see what is going on, and of course ... he can use the camera as a weapon for
smashing in some girl's face!!!

From beginning to end, this movie does not let up and it makes for quite an
experience, I'm glad to say this, I've been waiting for a great psychological horror
of this type!!!

As for the blu-ray, this movie must be taken as it was intended. The movie is filmed
in the perspective of a TV cameraman, so it is out of focus man times as he attempts
to focus on so many things while running around, and near the end just trying to
use it for it's light. Based on this, no it doesn't pop off the screen, but it's not
supposed to, and for that, the blu-ray looked great, dealing well with blacks and
shadows, detail was perfect when intended!!!

Overall, great flick, could have been more special features, was hoping for an
alternate ending, just to see what they thought it might end if it went another way,
don't get me wrong the ending was great!

Great Flick!!!!

THIS MOVIE WILL NOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is very intence, one of the best horror movies I have seen in a while. Anybody that says this movie is not worth seeing probly didnt sit down and really watch it or does not have a quality reciever to decode true hd sound. This movie has some of the best sound I have heard from a True hd sound track on any movie today. I literally felt like I was in the building myself. If you are lookingl for a good scare give the movie some respect and turn off all the lights and turn the sound (in true hd) up and it will scare the S#"% out of you. This movie will make you jump. The PQ is also amazing, I thought it was a real rat (gruesome) watch the movie youll know what Im talking about.

Great Intense Horror/Survival Movie

I will start off by stating that I am a 20+ year Firefighter/Captain here in Charlotte N.C. The film from that point of view was very well done..... And very realistic on how an incident can transpire... As we often work hand and hand with the police dept to control incidents such as the incident in this horror flick.
The handheld camera came off much better in this film because of the fact that the camera was a large commercial HD Camera with NO SHAKE. Unless the camera was dropped or the shot required some shake. Unlike Cloverfield that someone here has already stated that the handheld camera in Cloverfield was small and of the consumer brand.( But Still Worked For Me)

Quarantine was a very realistic, cold...and sickening movie portraying an incident that could actually happen in real life.

Entertaining enough, but definitely overhyped

On the positive side, the video and audio quality were excellent, but not the best ever. Despite the darkness, blacks and shadow detail were well preserved without much in the way of artifacts or noise, and the surround sound was immersive, but not very detailed.

The plot lines and characters were very underdeveloped, leaving many holes, and despite what the above poster claims (he knows better than I do) about the fire department response, the scenario seemed unrealistic. The response inside the building was uncoordinated and lacked communication. The fact that they were nearly immediately sealed inside without anticipation of that didn't sit well with me, especially given the magnitude of the response assembled outside of the building.

I did not feel the suspense and anxiety that is described by other posters, perhaps because I found this story so predictable. I never felt on the edge of my seat. I never felt scared. I may have felt frustration but never true tension. The key features of the plotline were all exposed very early leaving very little to be resolved at the end. The sick little girl, the sick dog, the strange man from Boston who lived upstairs What was revealed at the end only raised more issues that could have been developed to improve the story.

The lack of character development left me little to care about in this movie. The whole thing could have transpire with a similar feeling without knowing anything about the ancillary characters - the drunk man, the opera teacher with the medications and his student, the mother and sick daughter, the Africans, the veterinarian. You didn't need to know any of this about any of them and nothing would have changed. They had no stories. You didn't need to be a veterinarian to know what the old lady frothing at the mouth was supposed to be.

It's worth a look, but I was definitely disappointed. I really, really liked Cloverfield, so my expectations were high.
