Probably the best Liongate Film
Liongate are wellknow for their violent, druggy film. But this one i found is probably the best film by lion gate studio, great plot. Most of the character acting well in the film, probably went to a lot of diet too. Ellen Burstyn should had nominate for oscar, her performance is very top notch. This film didn't do well in box office because probably cause is typical lion gate steroid type view of violent movie. This film definite is for adult. I do wish it has better ending, is pretty sad ending in my opinion.
Video transfer could had been better, it look more early 90's than a 2000's blu-ray pq.
The audio is in the hand is good, one of best soundtrack for a film. But it keep too repeat. It has only 1 excellent soundtrack while the rest isn't that great but anyway is a top notch. |

The Power of film has never been more clear
"Requiem for a Dream" first seen by me the day it came out while I was living in Boston and working at a little indie cinema house. I remember walking out of the theater with the rest of the crowd silent yet the film images still ringing in my head. One couple while walking out said, "I'm going to go home and watch some cartoons." A glowing praise in my book.
The blu-ray does not fail by any means, some have said that the movie is great but it has no replay value...I say it has tons. Imagine watching this movie with people who have no clue whats in store, that reason alone calls for repeat viewings. Not to mention that the movie is start to finish unforgettable.
$9.99 for this movie on blu-ray?! Buy it now. |

Definitely did not let me down!
Months before this came out i read reviews on the canadian version and it worried the crap outta me because i thought it was going to look horrible, or no better than the dvd version. I grabbed this movie the first thing this morning (sept 8th) and I am so relieved! Just a couple minutes into it and I'm loving the work they did on the picture quality. I can't imagine this film looking much better clarity wise. Some may argue about it here and there, but none the less, it's quite impressive in most cases especially considering the time this movie was made. And i could be wrong on this, but im pretty sure this film wasn't filmed on a huge budget, so with those two things in mine the pq of this release is great! As far as the film goes, I've been a big fan of this movie for a while now. I think it has a great cast, story line, and a nice hard hitting ending. |

BE EXCITED B E EXCITED...
I have no complaints about the Transfer, I found it clear & detailed, from the peeling paint in the run down apartments to the sun soaked streets at the beginning. However the darker scenes do have excess grain and don't look good in HD.
This film still gives me chills, the last chapter "Requiem" is a slap in the face, emotionally & morally. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! |

WOW
What a transfer. For the time frame this movie was released (2000) this is a reference grade transfer, looks as good as Lost. Was very impressed with this Lionsgate release. Considering Gladiator was made the same year with a much larger budget ... kinda makes you wonder. |

Get the entire family together for this life lesson film
Just like i said in the title, this is a movie for the entire family. there is a lesson in this movie for both parents and children alike. What an incredible performance given by all of the characters in this movie. you could almost feel your life spiralling out of control as you lived vicariously all of the experiences of the characters. it starts out almost, for a minute or two that it's going to be a comedy then the everything starts to take shape and you realize it's going to be a serious, depressing drama; one that is needed too!. The movie was excellent, the video was really good but could have been a little better, the audio was incredible...some of the uses of surround were right on the money. i and my daughter were very happy with and impressed by this movie. you could see this happening to anyone. Please make sure the entire family sees this, it's a must see! |

Decent transfer for a masterpiece.
I put this movie in the "masterpiece that I can't watch too often," like Passion of the Christ. Its just too depressing. The movie is incredibly shot. and is a great reminder of the dangers of drug use. I love how Aronofsky shows us that drug use doesn't discriminate, and can equally affect the stereotypical street crowd, as well as the least people you'd expect. drug abuse has no agenda, no target, it doesn't discriminate. it just leaves havoc wherever it touches. a true masterpiece.
PQ and AQ were not great, but decent enough. PQ was inconsistent and soft. detail was lacking. color was good. but overall with the PQ, the detail was not great. this may have been araonfosky's intention (and many scenes were intentionally soft, i don't count those).
AQ was ok, again araonofsky may have intended a muddled score at times, but for most of the time, it was front heavy, dialogue could be heard but could have been clearer sounding. |
