The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track was VERY disappointing

This movie was just okay. It was entertainment for the evening, and it was a good drinking movie. It did not demand undivided attention. However, it was a mishmash. The pieces did not fit together well and there were details left out. I actually think a postapocalyptic zombie movie is a great idea and one that makes sense, but in this we have the apposition of the "low-tech" outside world and the "high-tech" remnants of the Umbrella Corporation, and it doesn't really work. There are neither enough individuals or resources to support the entity which is Umbrella. Too much is left out, up to the audience to fill in, and I found myself wonder the entire time how they were keeping things running. Then there is the group tooling around the desert. They have been surviving years, but they still manage to let their guard down and become unnecessary victims of the undead, and they still manage to suffer denial when they themselves become bitten, and I never once saw their water supply, despite the endless supply of pork and beans.

The picture quality was outstanding, even in the bright mid-day sunlight of the desert. Details remained crisp. There were a few subterranean scenes with excessive grain that seemed unnecessary, because it was only present from points of view and absent from most of the scenes. The colors in surface scenes were muted, perhaps as though you were looking through some lightly tinted sunglasses, but not as markedly as in, say, Hollywoodland. It's an affect that I think works well.

I was extremely disappointed in the TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack. I was not impressed by the surround effects, never did I feel completely immersed in a scene. Sound effects were occasionally overly loud, and the LFE effects were overdone in a few scenes. The intensity of the sound effects was not consistent with the action on the screen. This is the second or third TrueHD track I have heard via my Sony BDS1, and all have been disappointing. I think PCM tracks should be included on all BD's.

After reading the review, I was looking forward to this movie, but it did not live up to my expectations. Perhaps, though, as the first installment led to a rebirth of the zombie genre, this may lead to some films reminiscent of Mad Max.

Good movie

The Blu ray is really nice the PQ and SQ are decent but the extras are really lacking in content. If you like the RE movies get it otherwise just rent it first just to give it a try, not really a BD for everyone.

Better than expected.

I am a fan of the first 2 movies and I really thought this one was much better than the 2nd. Its more on par with the first film. PQ was great with lots of detail. Little noise here and there, but not enough to take any marks off for. I liked the extras PiP and the preview for RE:Degeneration.

I'm really highly enjoyed this movie

I bought this blu-ray that comes with the R.E. Trilogy High Definition Boxset.. I didnt watch the first and second cause i seen it back in the day, so i had to skip and watch this third film first... Well i was alittle worried about TruHD only on the third but when i start the movie, it really the best TruHD sound i ever heard from Dolby cause most of TruHD doesnt sound better than PCM but this film is superb!! The Picture Quality is clean but you can see grains from the dark scenes or flashback while the present scenes from the whole movie is very stunning in the desert!! I thought it might look gay but hey this movie is a must have if u gonna get the Trilogy Boxset but if u own the first and second, it does worth $25 to get this Resident 3 but i wont spend over $30. The fight between Alice and last boss at the end was excellent with picture quality and sound quality and this is what Blu-ray is about...

Milla is worth the price of admission alone! ;)

RE: Extinction (Blu-ray) IMO, is not as good as RE and RE: Apocalypse. But then, Extinction is 'just' a continuation of the story. The first installment is the best IMO.

There wasn't much 'new' in this flick. The dogs are reminiscent of the Dobermans in RE. As for the birds, didn't we see that in Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds' ???

PQ was excellent with a few frames being a tad grainy.

SQ was awesome... TrueHD 5.1 was flawless!

MJ was sexy as usual...

Extinction

Movie is good, i think the 2nd one is the best. PQ is very good, but i think that Apocolypse has better PQ. This also had some scenes of noticable PG, but although you can't notice much grain in the rest of the movie. Audio is flawless. Overall a sweet movie.

Ok movie, worth the rental

I'll be honest and I thought the first 2 movies were weak, like most video game movies
I bought this movie on hype alone, and the movie iteself is average, i did like the fact that this was mainly shot outside in the desert.... really makes a nice change.
that being said the video is really nice and clear, especially outdoor shots
audio tends to be weak on voices compared to sound effects
extras, i never watch
overal, i'm satisfied with the purchase but for most it might just be a rental

Missed

I have the Panasonic BD30 and this movies TrueHD would not play. I could only get DD audio. I was looking forward to this movie and was hoping they would follow up from where they left off in the second movie like they did with the first. I felt the movie was weak and missed some of the plot points developed in RE2 that could have made this a much better movie. The PQ was excellent and as a 1.1 BD Disc the PIP did work but I felt it was far to distracting to enjoy the movie. It still sounded good in DD but I was looking forward to the TrueHD or PCM in RE1 and RE2.

Hopefully This Movie Won't Be Part of the Extinction

I thought that this movie was really good. It was definitely the best out of the trilogy. The acting was decent and the violence was great. There was not a moment of the movie that I was not entertained. The video quality was exceptional and is unforgettable. The audio was fantastic and so clear it will blow your mind. The extras were interesting and kept me busy for an entire day and a half. Overall, this disc and movie are great. This is a must own!

i hate fuzz!

the picture was ok but in some shots and dark scenes everyones face looks like fuzz. i hated that! usually if im looking at a 720p HD TV, NOT a 1080p (which is what it was on). the overall movie picture was alright but those 4 or 5 scenes just ruined it for me!!!

A worthy title in the RE franchise

A highly entertaining movie that was far better than the second film but not quite as good as the first. Still a must-see for any fan of horror/ zombie flicks. This bluray release is nothing short of stunning. The PQ is amazing, razor sharp and consistent for the length of the movie. And while I was skeptical of the Dolby TrueHD track at first, it will leave you speechless. Hats-off to Sony for this Bluray release!!

Another great installment

First off, some of the effects were just amazing to see in such vivid detail. The pq was just great accept for some of the blacks in some scenes it was great. As for the sound it was an amusement park for the ears. The highs and lows were crisp and sharp, yet were booming enough to really just put you in the movie with "Alice".

Now the movie was a great transition peice. it was more of a movie than other transitions moves, but it was clear the her story was not yet complete. Being that the muse for this is a video game i cant fault them for not explaning some of the more drastic enviormental happenings. Though it would have been more helpful other then just the statments at the films begining that lead you to your own conclusion. Also the stereo typical order of death of the films characters was not logial or necessary to the story. All in all it was yet another good film in the series.

Best RE movie so far!

This movie was great! It was better then the other ones, the special effects was really good, the story was interesting and audio was good but since I don't have Dolby TrueHD decoder, I won't get the full experience but I'm sure it'll be outstanding. I liked the new PIP and Blu-Wizard feature.
