Hold your horses, this is a review of the overseas MGM/Fox 2007 release. One of the best carchase-
movies ever, period. The PQ is dreadful I'm affraid. The image is very soft, lacks detail and is very
grainy at times. The panoramic shot of Nice was bad on DVD, but is horrific on BD. The DTS-HD MA
5.1 will do. No extra's but trailers, not even the alternate ending which was on the DVD.
I don't know whether this is a remaster or not (the artwork is the same), but a lot of people got
screwed by MGM/Fox. All I'm saying is, wait for the review and the screenshots. |

Better off waiting...
This is one of my favorite DeNiro movies. I watched it when it first came out and I've been a big fan of this movie. I purchased the movie from Amazon Import.. and even though I love the movie itself, I was fairly disappointed when I saw the blu ray. First off the menus are in Japanese and cannot be changed, however you can use the pop up menu on your PS3 to adjust audio and subtitle settings but I prefer to use the disc's menu and fully utilize the blu-ray. The picture quality seems only a step better over the standard DVD because it is presented at 1080p but I found that the picture has many artifacts which didn't seem properly restored. The audio is descent, which features a DTS-HD Master Audio track. As for the extras.. there are none at all. No deleted scenes or no alternated endings. The disc however has 5 trailers in it one for the movie itself, X-men 3, Eragon, From Hell and one for all of the last three mention movies (all with Japanese subtitles on the sides of the screen). Priced at $40 dollars, you're probably better off waiting for it to come to the US market (Hopefully with a new digital transfer and stuffed with all the extras the movie has to offer). |

"None of these factors impact the video rating as much as a very subtle strobing or flickering coupled with vertical banding that gently effects the middle part of the screen."
I saw this exact same problem with the special edition DVD of 'Lawrence of Arabia', and it really leaps off the screen during the wide-angle shots. I really hope the oft-rumored HD transfer of 'LOA' eliminates this. It's a big shame 'Ronin' suffers from this. Makes you wonder sometimes why a studio even bothers to release a title without first fixing the obvious problems. |

wrong cars stated in main review....
Deirdre drove a 1991 BMW 535i in the second car chase scene, not a Audi. A 1998 Audi S8 was used in the first chase. |
