To the Winchester!!!
Shaun of the Dead is easily one of my favoruite cult comedies of all time. It perfectly blends a unique combo of comedy and classic zombie horror films which often leads to pure hilarity. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright who created the brilliant "Spaced" series bring us into the world of a slacker and his lazy best friend as the whole world goes to crap with a zombie outbreak and their crazy quest to stay alive. To say Shaun of the Dead is hilarious is an understatement and I found that the movie only gets better with multiply viewings; you catch little homages or jokes you may have missed everytime. Overall, Shaun of the Dead is the little movie that could, made on a small budget, it has turned into a true cult classic and for good reason. The writing is top-notch comedic gold, the cast is outstanding and the movie is completely entertaining and satisfiying both your comedy & horror needs all at the same time. I personally believe that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & Edar Wright are the best comedic trio working today and I am totally looking forward to their next feature.
I have seen the DVD version of Shaun quite a few time now but I must say, I am very impressed by this treatment Universal has give this release. The transfer is excellent; grain is present but never hindering and it is faithful to the original look of the movie. The colours are vibrant, the image is sharp and detail is great. (Look at the flat in the opening scene, there is a ton of background stuff I had never seen before) Honestly, I really didn't expect much but the PQ really impressed me, this is a fantastic looking catalogue title. The audio is very good as well. It begins front heavy however once zombie start coming, your system kicks up a alot with good usage of back speakers & sub. Dialogue is always loud & clear too. Once again, the track was better than I would have expected and serves the material perfectly. The bonus features are good with a fantastic & funny commentary track carried over from the DVD and some solid little featurettes although there isn't any new here which is a slight disappointment but expected.
If you haven't seen Shaun of the Dead by now, you're missing out. It is a brilliant horror-comedy and elevated Simon Pegg, Nick Frost & Edgar Wright into cult legends. The disc is terrific with stellar PQ & AQ and good extras. Overall, Shaun of the Dead is a must own for any fan of the movie or anyone just looking for a flat-out hilarious comedy that you can watch over and over again. |

Z-Day
First time I've seen it. I really enjoyed. I loved the comedy parts with the zombies. Pretty funny if you ask me. Simon Pegg did a great job in this movie. Overall, really good movie. Recommend you watch, because you're missing out.
PQ: The Video was good. Much better than standard definition. Overall, good transfer to Blu-ray.
AQ: The Audio was good. One of the better sounding movies on Blu-ray. Overall, good audio track. |

A Romantic Comedy
A brilliantly acted and well written little masterpiece which I never get bored watching.
I thought the transfer was very good and the DTS-HD sounded fantastic. The only question I have would be about the aspect ratio. There are skinny bars on the sides of the frame and I'm hoping that these are originally meant to be there. |

It's a Running Buffet!!!
Shaun of the dead is a pitch-perfect zombie parody. Shaun must get all those he cares about to safety, so he and his best friend Ed romp around town collecting loved ones and tag-alongs all while dispatching their motor-function-challenged foes. Filled with one-liners, hilarious action, and several hysterical music-related sequences this one never grows old.
The transfer on this disc is very good with terrific contrast. The aspect ratio is a bit odd in that it is a slightly window boxed anamorphic image(2.28:1 in a 2.39:1 frame). Dialogue is well delineated and clearly audible.
Recommended to fans of Horror, Comedy, or the duo of Pegg and Frost. |

The funny side of Horror
Movie (5/5)
This movie by far is fantastic, it has done what horror flicks don't do, and that is make you laugh! I loved this story and I'm sure fans of horror or comedy will love this as well!
Video (4.5/5)
The transfer is near flawless. Detail is high and colours mostly looked natural and no skintones were ever off. The only flaw was several shots in the Pub Scene were particulay grainy (probably due to a higher ISO film) but never too distracting.
Audio (5/5)
Nice, clear and full of surrounding sounds. No flaws here.
Overall (5/5)
If you are fan of this film, well this is a no-brainer, it surpasses the DVD by miles and also is a must own for any blu-ray enthusiast.
(Especially if you are fan of Left 4 Dead, watch this, THEN play Left 4 Dead, it will make the experience that much better)
Must Own reccomendation. |
