Incomplete series that could go either way...
As of summer 2009 the manga (graphic novel) series is not finished. Hence, the blu ray set is incomplete. This series however, has a dark dark story line. Filled with guts, glory, perversion, cannibalism, and rich Japanese culture.
My 3.0 rating of the blu ray is because it is INCOMPLETE not because it is poor. The PQ is good and so is the AQ. Plus it comes with a Japanese (for the purest) and English sound track. So you don't have to be a hardcore Anime fan to enjoy this blu ray. Although, again it only has 12 episodes. And when this series is complete it could have easily 3-4 times that. Meaning you are only getting a 1/3 or 1/4 of the complete story.
So before all you hot heads throw up your hands, because the plot and story arc seem unfinished, know that this is an unfinished product. I don't know why it is listed as a complete set when it is not. Moreover, one may expect a great battle at the end of this blu-ray, but it doesn't take place because it happens many episodes further down the story.
All aside if you DO NOT care for massive and excessive blood and guts, or get turned off by sick themes then this is not for you.
I do want to see the COMPLETE MANGA get animated before I praise or condemn this film. However, if you really want to know what happens to the characters just pick up the book (manga).

Loved the series even though it left me wanting more
This was one of the bloodiest anime series I've ever seen but the story in itself is amazing. I really hope they animate the rest of the series though. I'm holding off on the manga solely for that purpose. |
