Sure buy!
yeah!! This movie really is worth purchasing. I got just as Paramount went hd dvd exclusive. I didn't feel tricked though. the image is something to show off your set and bluray to "common people". You see I showed "hits" in bluray that showcase what bluray capabilities are, but it was only with this movie that I got a 100% acknowledgement that bluray IS the right stuff. As for the sound, you won't believe dolby digital had somemore to say. Don't expect the audio track sound as good as uncompressed audio but remember, this movie isn't much "real", so the dolby digital sounds just perfect for it. As for the plot, well let's just say it is entertaining and contagious. If you really want a movie that gives you the entertainment and fun you deserve after a long week, you'll be pretty much served with sky capitain and the world of tomorrow. |

A Visual Masterpiece
When I saw the trailer for this movie a few years ago, I knew I had to see it. I've always loved the look and feel of this movie. It's a shame this movie didn't have the universal appeal it deserves. Short and sweet, this movie looks and sounds incredible in high def. The colors and tones are desaturated for the most part, but it adds an air of authenticity to this film. In contrast, the skycraft carrier and island jungle scenes have rich and vibrant colors. Old sci-fi concepts combined with modern CGI and sound effects are what really makes this movie unique. Forget about realism and technology that seems to defy the laws of physics, this movie is meant to be for pure entertainment, nothing more. Think of it as sort of a sci-fi Sin City. A live action comic book if you will. Once you accept that, kick back and simply enjoy this movie. It's a worthy title to add to your Blu collection. |

A great, somewhat original movie for Retro/Sci-Fiction fans
Video: The backgrounds are well integrated, but show some of CGI's resolution limitations. However, the facial details really stand out in some scenes – even the facial pores can be visible.
Audio: The DTS track here is one of the best lossy mixes because it is well balanced for the most part. You may want to turn down the center speaker and sub slightly so that is it not overwhelming. However, I can’t call any lossy mix reference quality; it is very likely that if a similar mix were presented in lossless, I would give it the full 5.
Extras: “Brave New World,” and “Anatomy of a Virtual Scene” make up over one informative hour. There are also the 6 min short that was used as a sales pitch for the movie and a mini featurette on the concept artwork. The other extras are pretty much typical for a movie release: commentaries, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and the theatrical trailers. |
