Trip with The Doors On Blu
I'm really glad I watched Oliver Stone's 'The Doors' for first time in Blu-ray--the transfer is great in my opinion, largely due to the fact there's some absolutely stunning cinematography in this movie (such as the scene in the desert) by Robert Richardson. The 60's Free Love era is faithfully constructed, and the concert scenes are done wonderfully. It really is one hell of a 'trip'--an aural & visual odyssey that paves the stage for Stone's later films like JFK, NBK.

The Iceman Cometh
The Doors is essentially a vehicle for Val Kilmer to be as crazy as possible and still seem cool. His performance is the only thing, besides the music, that stands out in this film. The story, supposedly fictionalized, is your typicall biopic arc of a naive young star rising too quickly and too high resulting in the predictable fall.
The transfer is marred by the different uses of film stock by Stone. There are times when the scenes look great and others bad. It never looks terrible and skin tones are relatively consistent throughout. The audio on the other hand is strong throughout though spoken dialogue, not to be confused with yelled dialogue which there is quite a bit, can sometimes be difficult to hear.
Recommended for the strong performance by Val Kilmer. |

Enjoyed this title
I thought this film was well done. Great feeling for the times and fantastic concert recreations. Good quality disc with plenty of interesting sp. features. |
