Great

I found this at my walmart just a few hours ago getting placed on the shelf and i had to pick it up. This movie is great, it's really mesmerising and gives a haunting undertone. A injured girl wanders in a hospital and meets a stuntman who tells a story when fantasy and reality collides. the PQ is visually stunning, colors look rich and flesh tones are spot on. Black levels and whites were on track and i didn't notice any much noise or grain throughout the movie. Scenes during the desert is magnificent, the sky is sharp blue and the rocky hills look totally realistic. it gave a 3D vibe to me. The AQ was very good, just a good transfer by Sony, it wasn't perfect i felt something quiet about it some scenes i had to turn up my volume for than i should have but the battle sequences really shine in this film. Overall, The Fall is a visual feast and i really recomended it, you have to see it yourself to see how great this is. A solid blu ray transfer from Sony. Great.

Demo Material!

I Immediatley got this after school and was VERY IMPRESSED. Movie is just overall Excellent and the
young Cantinca Untaru is just so sweet to watch and grabs you in the movie. Costumes, visuals and
location are literally out of this world and shown BEAUTIFULLY on Blu-ray! Grain is very subtle and
detail is incredibly sharp even in extremely far shots. Audio is clear and banging in respective scenes.
Extras are incredibly artsy and add a lot after watching the movie and while I would've liked a little bit
more, the stuff they have on the blu-ray does the movie justice in terms of letting us know about
production and performance. GET IT!

Art Work

I was impressed by the trailer; the film in theatres exceeded my expectations; the Blu-ray blew me away. I really enjoyed the film; it had a different take on the 'story within a story' and the characters were truly endearing, the little girl especially. The picture quality was stunning; there was extreme detail in the fabric of the clothing and bedding. The colors were spectacular; I think I saw some new colors that I had not seen on a TV before. The extras lacked a little; there could have been more in a few areas. Overall, I am very satisfied with this movie.

Perhaps the Best Looking Blu Ray Yet

I was afraid to see this movie because I thought it would be pretentious art- house stuff. However, I watched it at the request of a friend and was immediatley enamored with it. "The Fall" not only tells a really good story, but the visuals are simply stunning, perhaps even the best yet on Blu Ray! I was even more shocked to learn that there is NO use of CGI anywhere in the movie.

A young girl in the hospital meets a stuntman who is also hospitalized for a stunt gone wrong (the movie itself takes place in the 1920's). He tells her a story that starts off light- hearted and gets progressively darker as the viewer comes to learn that the fantasy he tells mirrors his deteriorating emotional and mental states of being.

The less you know about the movie the better. It is incredibly original, emotional, and well- acted. If you're looking for something different that qualifies as GENUINE film making (I guess it took over 4 years to film in nearly 20 different countries) and offers some of the of the most striking visuals yet on Blu Ray- "The Fall" is truly great stuff.

BD;s are looking good and playing better this week. 'The Fall' has a visual thing that gets you like Tarsem's scarier 'The Cell' did ; but the story is very different still with that designer look. But good. BD2have!i

What more can I say?

I don't know what to say about this except buy it. It's amazing the lengths this director goes to to get the shot. It's a heartbreaking tale of youth, love, and survival. I actually loved this more than Pan's Labrynth. I won't go into detail about the story because you have to watch this movie.

Video quality is amazing. Everything looks great and the colors are exceptional. The only thing I noticed is that the film is a tad dark in some areas but I think Tarsem did that intentionally.

I recommend watching the extras because you will see why it took Tarsem so long to find the right girl. I can't see anyone else in her role.

A great BD release all around!

Tarsem Singh...

It's great to see another film by Singh and one can only hope that he continues to make visual feasts such as this. Now we only need for THE CELL to be released in a definitive version as well on Blu-ray with DTS-HD sound and HD picture. Then my DVD import can finally be obsolete, although it does contain one of the best full bit rate DTS audio tracks, so I may keep it still.

Stunning

This is a beautiful movie, with great acting. Though I feel the fairy tale doesn't have the same impact as in Pan's labyrinth, mostly due to some cheesy dialogue. Top notch PQ & AQ makes it a reference non-CGI disc.

Quite a feast for the eyes.

This film uses every color in the spectrum and uses it well. Just an absolute pleasure to watch from start to finish. The most dazzling BRD I've seen so far.

The Fall

I like these kinds of movies where a story is being told to someone and there are elements of fantasy/myth etc. It reminded me slightly of Big Fish, which I loved. I didn't however particularly enjoy the way the fairytale elements were portrayed though. It was very theatrical with what seemed to be exaggerated expressions and movements. This was exactly what the director desired, as he says so in one of the extras, but it simply isn't my taste. Other than that I did enjoy it overall and the video and audio are great. I was especially impressed by the audio. I had only recently set up my HD sound system and doubted whether or not I had done so correctly. This movie removed my doubts. Whenever a fire arm went off, there was a super-realistic CRACK to be heard that made me jump more than once. Also, sounds coming from down the hall and around the room in the hospital are marvelous. Worth a look for its impressive visuals at the least.

A Wonderful Story With Eye-Popping Video & Lush Audio

This needs to be watched more than once, and it will be worth it. The opening B/W scene is the best I've ever seen, and the touch of Beethoven music gave it a depth that most movies strive for. Since it's shot at 1.85, it'll fill your screen and put you more into the story. Highest recommendation.

Awesome visual powerhouse!!

This movie reminded me of the visual scenery of The Cell (Jennifer Lopez on the horse in the beginning in the desert). The cinematography was similar to the Cell in places.

Tarsem Singh is my new hero, along with Julie Taymor of Across the Universe, as visual directors that are above the rest. This movie was incredible in how it interwove the real world and the story world, so much so that the line between the two completely evaporated. You'll never see a movie that does this ever again.

It also reminded me of Pan's Labrynth, with the young girl mischeviously playing a key role in the story, and being the center character. She did an incredible job. You can tell her lines are improv, and way too natural to be scripted.

I'll have to buy this, but its currently $28 on amazon i'll wait to get it used.

Truly a masterpiece

This was a blind buy for me, and I am pleased to say I have no regrets. The picture is amazing and it grips you straight away. The overall story is wonderful. You feel for Roy and his pain. The charactor Alexandria (Catinca Untaru) is a pleasure to watch, the acting is so natural. Magnificent is the only word all you need to sum up this film.

The movie that deserves to be watched in Blu Ray

I can only agree: this is a visual masterpiece. A definitive picture reference for quality. I don't know what is more accurate: this movie deserves blu-ray, or blu-ray deserves this movie. The composition of the images, the intensity, contrast and variety of colors, the richness of details, makes this one for me the first modern movie that fits the Blu Ray Technology.

In an ideal world, Oscars would have been in order for AT LEAST Tarsem Singh (director) Colin Watkinson (cinematography) and Catinca Untaru (the little girl, main character). With no such luck, the ideal thing is that you give yourself the chance of feasting your eyes with this movie.

I expect that this movie will become a cult classic over the years.

NOTE: It should be added that the theme of the movie itself is not so original. Not only it hints at movies like The Princess Bride or Big Fish, but it was directly inspired by a (virtually unknown) Bulgarian movie called "Yo ho ho".

Moreover, there are obvious homages, e.g., to the movie stunt men. And to those familiar with BARAKA, there's a couple of ideas related to that movie, in a couple of scenes, but likewise, more than just a copy, they look like a homage.

The main thing is that the director got good ideas as inspiration and did something worthy with them, taking them to a next level.

Fell in Love

Love this movie and it even looks great on Blu-ray. Beautiful movie and in HD just makes it all that
much more beautiful. Of corse it is just the typical extras but nothing wrong with that at least they
have the extras. See this movie. Travel the world. It will be good for you

Artistic, Passionate, Mesmerizing

I picked this movie up from a store as it was recommended to my by a friend, i wasn't expecting much from this movie or never thought it would effect me in so many ways that i was suprised and mesmerized by it's everything about it. there has never been a movie like this and never will be a movie like it. the scenes the customs the colors, everything about it is beautiful.

the storyline is about a stuntman Roy Walker (Lee Pace) who after he lost his GF and his legs becomes suicidal, and he strikes a strange friendship with a little girl by the name of Alexandria (Catinca Untaru) as he enchants her with a tale of heroes, who seeks vengeance.

the PQ is top notch, crystal clear, the images, the intensity, contrast and variety of colors, the richness of details is something to behold and really sharp. the quality of sound is also great except that it had some problems with the volume i feel that the background was lower than the dialouge, but it rarely happened.

overall this is one of the best movies of 2008 and a must have on Blu-Ray for its beautiful scenery and the wonderful rich world it contains.
