One of the better horror remakes gets one of WB's better HD transfers
I think most people already know the premise of the movie so I won't get into the details other then this is one of the few horror movie remakes that lives up to and in some ways surpasses the original.
The video transfer was top notch and for the first time I noticed little details like when Erin throws the joint out the van window you can see the red on the paper as the hot rock bounces off the road and breaks apart. The detail in the carnage and gore is more apparent as well.
The audio is excellent and one of the better Dolby TruHD soundtracks from WB as well. I personally would have prefered DTS HDMA, but lossless is lossless.
Did not get into extra features so I will not rate them.
I guess Dreamworks, must have gotten the Canadian version or has a crappy system, because he is the only review that doesn't think this release looks and sounds great. |

Great movie. Worth the low price just for the A/V alone!
I'm so happy to finally have this movie on Blu-ray! I watched it last night and was I am VERY pleased with the A/V quality! I was mesmerized with the detail shown, this one is sharp as a tack! It has attractive looking *fine* film-like grain. I didn't notice any DNR, EE, Banding or print damage at all! Colors are muted. The blacks could be darker but that is the director's intented look. Shadow detail is pretty darn good. Warner did a great job with this encode which is somewhat rare for them. The VC-1 video compression is great with a high average bitrate (upper 20's).. I even seen this maxing at 45 mbps!
The audio defaults to Dolby TrueHD. Boy o'boy does this sound awesome! A aggressive mix with tons of deep bass! The atmosphere from the surrounds are great! I loved the crystal clear sound and placement of the sound effects! Tons of 'creep you out' moments from the sound alone!
I highly recommended this to TCM fans and all you horror fans out there! This appears to have all the features the DVD has and A/V quality that blows the SD DVD out the water! |

$10 to see Jessica sweat in HD
This movie blew me away the first time I saw it and it still does today. The video is jaw dropping clear and really shows early in the movie while it's still light out. The audio was good but DTS would have been nicer, it was 6.1ES on dvd. Still, I can't believe they did such a good job with this movie. I have a renewed interest in this not so classic , classic! |

The Original Saw, Texas style Redux................................
What sets this apart from it's original 1974 release, is that this one steps up the gore factor and gets some credible talent to add to the macabre and the brutality of the whole acts are pretty laughable. I know if I was caught in some backwards hickland and some inbreed fuck was after me, I would hall ass outta there. Chainsaw 2003, boasts a nice transfer that is sharp and clean. The truHD track is also a nice touch. Once again extra's go deeper in the heart of Texas to reveal the inspiration to reboot this series and all the other things involed in that process. I only wonder what's next for the 21st century leatherace? |

A lot of quality for a low MSRP Blu-ray... Thumbs up!
Tons of detail, sometimes even surreal looking! This movie features weak colors/blacks and that happen to bring this title down a tad in my book.. I can't hold that against it, who would want a horror movie looking like candyland anyways? The movie has hardly any grain but what grain does happen to show looks very pleasing as it has a natural film like appearance.. no clumpy grain due to DNR or over compression! The sharpness is on par with other detail rich movies such as "Crank" and "Shoot 'Em Up" .. The soundtrack is very well done without being overly aggressive, which could take you out of the movie. I also own the DVD copy that features a DTS EX and this Dolby TrueHD is a step up once volume matched! PQ is also a nice step up as well, as one would naturally expect while upgrading to Blu.. You can't go wrong buying this!
I'm with Eagle_23: I can't wait until TCM: The Beginning to makes it to Blu-ray! |

The movie itself wasn't quite as good as I remember, but the PQ and AQ are stunning. A must own for anyone who enjoys horror movies. |

This is the best Blu you'll find for $10
This movie is funny and scary all at once. The picture quality is very good and the audio is wicked. I say pick this up for 10 bucks while you can. Best Buy had it priced at $24.99.
So pick this up before this weekend. Wal mart says its 14.99 (in store)but, on their web site its listed at 9.32. just some FYI for ya'. Excellent movie for the Halloween season! |

What is BrahamaBull1969 talking about?!?!?
The video and audio is great on this movie and if your system has a great surround sound, you won't be disappointed at all.
The picture quality on TCM is so freakin good. This is a wonderful upgrade from the dvd version. All of the special features are here and again, BrahmaBull1969 makes no sense when he gives the extras only a 1/2 star.
When I see that he is a Steelers fan this begins to make sense b/c he is so upset about the Bengals and their come from behind win this past Sunday. (J/K) LOL!!!
I think anyone looking for a good horror film for their Blu library will be pleased with this release and for $10...well...you may feel Christmas came early.
The movie, the PQ, AQ, and the special features are just awesome. Get this one today and you won't regret it! |

One of the few great remakes and just an all around great horror movie
Won't get into the movie itself, either you like it or you don't. In terms of PQ it's really good, I couldn't be happier. I have to imagine the director would be very pleased. There's a perfect amount of film grain present which adds a nice touch and the detail is quite excellent as well. However this probably isn't the type of film you'd use to show off your system, but that just because of the direction the director took and not due to a poor transfer.
Audio wise it's very good as well. I wish that a DTS-HD track was used instead, as the DVD used a DTS 6.1 track, but whatever. I'm still very pleased with what we have. Just check out the scene where Leatherface is chasing the guy through the sheets outside, very good stuff.
The extras included are simply a straight up transfer from what was on the DVD. Which I found to be very informative and interesting. Sadly however none of it is in HD, but then again that's fine because ultimately all that matters to me is that the movie got a solid treatment.
Now just give us The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and I'll be ecstatic. Biel in HD = check, Brewster in HD = yes please!
Note: I'm reviewing the Alliance/Canadian release, which by all indications appears to be an exact duplicate to the Warner Bros./US version, only difference is Alliance distributed it instead. |

Classic Remake Of A Classic Horror Movie!!!!!
I loved this movie in the theatre, what a great remake of a classic horror film. Needless to say when I saw it coming to Blu I had to upgrade from the DVD version and for $10.00 this movie is an absolute steal!!!!! Get it at Bestbuy this weekend while you can, my local store only got 3 copies in and by the time I got there at 11 a.m I got the last copy. The sound of the chainsaw rocked my surround system, love it!!!!!!! Watching this movie just made me all the more anxious for Michael Bay's remake fo The Nightmare On Elm St. coming next year. And I am talking about the US version!!!!! I've bought a few Alliance releases only to be letdown by them when the US versions come out. |
