Amazing Sound
I just got done watching the BD and all I can say about the audio is:
HOLY S__T!!!!
Tier 0 definitely and i'd say just a shade below my other favorites:
MASTER AND COMMANDER
THE ORPHANAGE
It's not just a matter of the depth charges, but the subtle details found while they were being depth charged. The breaking of glass, fatiguing of the metals, the crashing of lights- all very cleanly articulated.
If I could use a word to describe it, the word is RESONANCE. That's what the DTS-MA track allows is resonance of the original signal.
I used to have the HD DVD and while the DD+ and the DTS were very good, it had nowhere near the articulation and resonance of the DTS-MA track. There's more to it than just improved dynamics. The dialogue was particularily clear, the humming of engines and the intialization of equipment that was previously hiding in previoius audio formats, are now realized.
For lossless junkies this is a necessary BD to check out |

Depth charges!
Depth charge scene alone is prime demo material and worth picking up. Decent sub movie. Can be found easily for $15 at various locations and let's be honest....you have spent more on crap movies...this one is worth it |

Finally.. one of the movies I personally have been wanting on blu and it delievers.. not only do I think the movie is just awesome from a "Entertainment Level" but the blu looks and sounds amazing... I loved the DTSMA on this disc... heavy LFE... nice use of the surrounds.. just a mind blowing experience that will shake the house..
Highly recommended. |

How low can you go?
U-571 was a German U-boat which was disabled in combat. Onboard was a device which was winning the The Battle of the Atlantic for the Germans, The Enimga Code Machine. The Americans needed that device in order to decode interecepted messages from the German Navy, without it they were being outmanuevered and outmatched. A US Submarine is sent on a special ops mission to rendezvous with the sub by appearing like the German resupply submarine from which the U-boat was to requisitioned parts and mechanics. Once onboard they were to take control of the boat, recover the Enimga and destroy the evidence. But, like all things in War, it doesn't quite go to plan.
The transfer on this disc is very good with an audio portion that excels. The video is solid, but the image detail isn't up to the highest standards. The audio on the otherhand is terrific, highly detailed with outstanding "depth." |

Now THIS Is Blu Ray!!
The movie itself is no "Das Boot" (in fact, it borrows a lot from "Das Boot") but it is solid entertainment and well worth owning. The PQ & AQ are simply astonishing! Defintely demo material! Images are incredibly crisp and colorful. The PQ almost ranks up with Saawariya (which I think is probably the best looking BD to date). |

Depth Charges
I really only wanted this movie for the depth charge sequences. When I got my first DTS system, this
DVD was the one I showed off sound with and now on BD, it is the same. The Audio is AWESOME.
Hands down, the best I have heard so far. |

Ka Boom Eargasium!
I think my subwoofer jumped out the window and did a couple of laps around the house! This is the way sounds should be done. This was a rental and WILL be a buy the next time I touch it again. Got to have this one in the collection. |

What? I can't hear you . . ...
WOW. This is one of my faves and it is so excellent on blu. AQ is definitely reference grade. Thundering and rumbling LFE from the depth charges and overall excellent ambient soundscape with every nuance of their experience represented. Screeching of tortured metal, lights popping, bolts shearing, water dripping . ... amazing. PQ also very sharp. A great movie and a treat to experience on blu. |

Those Krauts sure know how to build a boat.
I own the DVD so this was on my wishlist since I found out it was coming to Blu. Great movie, historical inaccuracies aside. Very edge of your seat thrill ride, especially the depth charges. I am impressed with the picture and sound. The audio is not lacking in any way. Definately a demo disc to show off with. |

Very impressive release
Although Universal was a promoter of HD-DUD originally, this overmeets my expectations. They go with a DTS HD-MA track ever since they started releasing their catalog titles on Blu. The audio track gets full points. I can hear everything from gunshots and explosions, to the minute sounds of metal under stress and splashing water. I don't have Profile 1.1 capabilities, so I couldn't use U-Control PiP. Therefore I didn't rate the extras. I actually rented this title, but it would make a very good choice for a collection. |

Fantastic quality catalogue title
In Britain, generally we scoff at U-571's historical inaccuracies and are less than enthused by the Americans portrayl of things. Whils this is certainly a relevent subject for debate, its not really important if you just look at the film as a film for entertainments sake, which it is.
Viewed like this, its great. A good story, good cast (even Bon Jovi), and some good action scenes make it gripping from start to end.
The fact that the Blu-Ray is an outstanding transfer makes it even more enjoyable. Picture is sharp and clear with fantastic details and colours. The only minor quibble is, DNR has given the odd scene some waxy faces, but its minor and nothing to worry about. Explosions look great and really pop off the screen.
Audio is some of the best i've heard. DTS Master is king here. Right from the echos of sonar and creaking metal, to the thundering depth charges and gunfire, everything is crystal clear and superbly placed in the listening area.
I bought the US version of this Blu-Ray, as the UK version has apparently not been given the same care in high defenition. Funny that! ;-)
I loved this movie, and the HD transfer, and wish all catalogue titles were treated this way. |

Audio Quality Amazing!
U-571 not only had a great plot line, but the picture and audio quality were amazing for a movie which is almost ten years old. Very good transfer. Depth charge scenes were excellent, honestly it kept me on the edge of my seat (even though I saw the movie numerous times over the years). I agree with davcole, the detail in the audio was really good! I only paid $19.99 at Best Buy and it was worth every penny!
I recommend the purchase. Buy it, it's a must for your collection! |

Dive, Dive, Dive...............................
U-571 comes to blu with an excellent PQ transfer and an bombastic DTS-MA track. Man that is load even with the reciever set at volume 25. The movie plot however tends to drag here and there, but with the likes of Matthew McConaghey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Kietel and David Keith is well worth the ride. The only thing missing in action from this release is all the nice bonus features w/exception of director commentary that made it to the special collector's edition DVD. So double-dip warning has been issued. Otherwise for the right price add this to your collection. |

Demo Disc!!
AWESOME BD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This release was amazing. If this is what we have to expect from Universal: BRING IT ON!!
PQ- Very dark, lots of greens and low lighting but everything was so crisp. One of the reveiws claimed there were some muttled shots when it would cut to the water. I never noticed that. My screen is 115" and there was no grain. This is easily a demo disc to add into the collection. This release would be compared to Narnia easily. 4.5
AQ- DEMO DISC. Enough said. Sound come from evereywhere. Creeks and little movements. I actually thought one of the noises came from outside. That never happens. The silence of listening for the depth charges and then explosions all around the room are enough to buy the movie alone. Listen for the torpedo scraping the sub, Very, very cool. 5.0
Didnt watch speacial features. Total Review Score: 4.5
My projector doesnt produce great screen shots during the day. I will try to get some on tonight.
Rent or Buy? Buy it . Definate Demo Material. |

Must Buy
U-571 has always been my favorite movie on dvd. When I first saw it on blu I was more than just amazed, the aq was just phenominal. I have got to say that this movie has one of the best audio tracks I have ever heard on blu. The pq is also great, overall this is a movie that belongs in every collection. |
