I was surprised
I couldn't believe the picture quality and sound of this blu. I hadn't seen the movie for about 8 years and blind bought it as it was on special. I was not dissapointed.
The video is crisp and clear. I didn't notice any problems that would be classified as negative. The reason I gave this 4/5 is because the image doesn't quite pop like some other AAA titles I own. That being said I don't think anyone can knock how it looks. It definitely is worthy of calling it a blu-ray.
The audio was great. I would almost call it a reference title except for the lack of LFE that I heard. Only when the gas station blows up was it really used effectively. The opening scene in vietnam really shows things off with bullets flying and rain coming all around. I think the sound was just superb.
The movie itself is what it is. You can predict it a mile away, the van damme kicks are in there like swimwear. The key to this film is Dolph's performance. He really takes it to the B-movie extreme and hams it up. If you are a fan of late 80's and early 90's flicks then this is a must own.
I suggest you pick this up if you see it for a good price. |

Not the worse
Agreed it is an entertaining no brainer Van Damme action flick. Fair video by today's standards and lackluster audio - lots of flash and explosions but just not enough LFE to the sub. Still a worthwhile addition for the action addiction.... |

Best VAN DAMME movie ever
Love this movie, bought it for $19.99 excellent price for bluray catalog titles and watched last night. Awesomoe from start to finish, brought back some good memories from the drive-in LOL
Only disappointment was the sound, i found it kind of flat, with no real bass. Probably due to the fact that this is an older movie. The othe negative is the alternate ending is 480p only and not HD oh well. Picture quality is really good and if you like van damme you have to buy this |

An action film starring two of the best STARS of the 1990s....!!!!
Not too many action films will feature two stars like this one...this film is very well transfered onto Blu-ray for a film almost reaching its 20th anniversary...both stars dueled a perfect fight for the audience...it's one of those rare ones where you'll see two stars go head-to-head...clearly one of the best action movies you'll want to pick up...recommended for any action movie fans... |

Top notch transfer
Whilst Van Damme and Lundgren were firmly in the shadow of Stallone and Schwarzenegger in the 80's and 90's, this was nevertheless a worthy feather in the cap for all action movie fans. Plenty of action, a decent enough story, and a worthy budget made this a bonafide A movie for the time.
Van Damme and Lundgren are both at the top of their game here and are perfectly cast as the Universal Soldiers.
The Blu-Ray is of excellent quality. I popped it in the player and was astounded. You could have knocked me down with a small pork chop.
It is crisp and clear with great colour reproduction. It looks far more modern than its 18 years would suggest. Certainly better than some other older action movies (i.e Predator and Robocop).
The DTS Master sound is also very good, though this does give the game away as to the films age. Slightly less "thump" than you get from some more up to date movies. What is there though is done really well.
Not the best of the breed, but a good film for action fans. The transfer is excellent, and at the price, is well worth adding to your collection. |

Classic Action movie get's amazing treatment from Lionsgate!!
While Lionsgate is a hit or miss film distribution studio when it comes to bluray transfers, they really knocked this one out of the park. Whether being viewed at 60hz or 120hz, the PQ is top notch and the AQ is also really strong. If you loved this movie as a kid like me, you'll be in awe watching a movie that looks this good. |

Incredible image
A JCVD classic revived in blu-ray. What could you ask more? Although not perfect this Blu-ray has an incredible image quality for an oldie. I was really amazed at how clean the image was. Audio though is the opposite: quite the let down. The sound it simply unbalanced. From low dialogues to way to high explosions. I had to constantly play with the sound on this one which is quite annoying.
Overall though I would still recommend it simply because it's often on sale under 10$ and it's just one of those guilty pleasures you like to have again and again. |

A classic Van Damme movie, picture quality was super, AQ was great for an older movie, its a great trasnsfer and will make a good addition to the blu-ray collection. |

Bring on the Dolph!!
Everyone considers this a Van Damme flick, but to me, it will always be a Dolph Lungdren film. If you are a fan of the action star, than you know this is a classic. Dolph has a blast here playing the bad guy (once of only three times over the course of 35 films he would), and hams it up to the extreme. Look, you either get this movie for what it is, a B grade action spectacular for the 90's or you dont. For those that understand this movie wasn't aspiring to be high art, and want to enjoy it, good news: PQ and AQ are top shelf for a 16 year old catalog title. It looks better than I ever thought I would see it. It sounds great as well. The extras are a pretty good package in my opinon, especially for a early 90's action flick. For me, this will sit proudly beside Commando waiting to be frequently pulled for my action fix. Highly recommended for genre fans. |

wow is all i have to say for this movie.. yes i am a huge fan of JCVD but this movie really stepped up its game in terms of PQ.. for a movie being this old and looking this good is soo promising for movies liike kicker boxer, bloodsport, cyborg.. really impressed with the quality, keep up the good work, this movie is worth every penny.. |

"LOOK FOR SOMETHING HARD"
I was never a big Van Damme fan but in this film he's actually pretty good. He and Lundgren make very good advesaries. The story is quit entertaining if not a bit over the top but that's what movies are for to check your brains at the door every now and then.
There are some really good action sequences with lots of fights and explosions!
I was pleasantly surprised by the transfer LionsGate did a very nice job and the sound was loud and clear throughout!
This is a nice "cheesy" action film to have in one's collection!!

A very underrated movie!
First of all i have to say that i'm a Van Damme fan.... for me Universal Soldier is one of Van Damme's most underrated movie and i'm glad that Lionsgate gave a great transfer for this movie! Considering that this movie was made in the early 90's the PQ is great and you barelly see grain or dirt... from all Van Damme's BD's this is by far the nest one and i suggest this BD for everyone! |

Watchable but not GREAT
I seen most of JCVD's movies, i'm 22 so i grew up watching him and would go so far as to say he's one of my biggest childhood idols, not so much now, but then =D after saying that i really enjoy most of his movies still and can watch him all day but this is not one of his best films. You might want to rent this and see if you like it before buying. Can't wait for all his other movies to start getting released! |
