A full teaser trailer has been released for acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated new project, Pacific Rim (2013), which is set to open in theaters across the United States on July 12th. The film stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, and Diego Klattenhoff.
Plot description: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Obviously, mecha anime is an influence, but I somehow doubt, based on the trailer, the movie is going to be delving into the psychological/philosophical territory Eva goes down.
Ugh, if you try to watch this is HD, it goes to this "trailer addict" site with ads playing in another window, which you can't stop, so the ad audio is playing over the trailer's audio. Annoying as hell.
uggh... and I love stupid crap like this. Warner and Legendary are gonna lose on this one. 3 month bluray release easy. Gonna have to make up some of that dough!
This is the closest thing to a SHOGUN WARRIORS (remember Raydeen, Combatra and my favourite, Danguard Ace?) movie we will ever see... I'm with wnicholas76 on this... can't freakin' wait!
Not for me ... Michael Bay Transformers (which I dislike) mixed with: Godzilla-Japanese Monster Movies (which I love), Anime (no interest), and too much CGI (which I dislike). And I am a fan of most of Guillermo del Toro's previous movies.
So that is the Glados voice? Huh, I don't really understand why, but whatever. I might see this just out of curiosity, but this really doesn't look very good.
You can definitely feel Guillermo Del Toro's style in all of that. If any other director handled this idea, I think it would of just ended up like Transformers/Battleship. I won't say it looks like a masterpiece, because... well quite frankly, all of his masterpieces have been his spanish films, but it certainly looks like Del Toro is coming back with a vengeance with this one.
Kind of looks like something James Cameron would of made if he was being raped with a strap-on dildo made entirely of barbed wire while trying to direct a movie.
This will be a very fun movie and that's all we can really expect from a Del Toro hollywood film.
I would say this is more of a Tetsujin/gigantor rip off more than anything else.It looks ok,but Del toro is better at the Spanish ideal than the English speaking world in all fairness.
I think this film is in danger of becoming a flop unless it makes a lot of money in Asia. A lot of Geeks are really creaming their pants for this but I think there are a lot of other people that might find having to watch two hours of giant mech-suits fighting giant monsters a little challenging. I for one would rather if they did something with a more interesting storyline link Ghost in the Shell, Battle Angel or Akira. I can't help but think that if I was going to make a film based on Japanese Anime that Transformers and this would have been my first choices. Of course if anyone can make this work Guillermo Del Toro if probably a good choice.
So far Sci-Fi films in order of interest coming out next year:
1 Man of Steel
2 Elysium
3 Gravity
4 Oblivion
5 Star Trek In To Darkness
6 Ender's Game
7 Robocop
8 Pacific Rim
9 Iron Man 3
10 Catching Fire
11 Riddick
12 After Earth
when I read about the premise a while ago I was really excited. Del Toro is one of my favorite directors. But this teaser trailer looked downright horrible. It was cool for about a few seconds (the carcass on the ship) up until you see the first robot machine.
Del Toro is good enough where it warrants a viewing but I pretty much just lost all my excitement for this one : (
