Focus Features has released the first official trailer for director Derek Cianfrance's crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), starring Ryan Gosling (Drive), Bradley Cooper (Limitless), Eva Mendes (Holy Motors), and Ray Liotta (GoodFellas). The film is set to open in theaters across the United States on March 29th.
Official synopsis: Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies in order to support his newborn son. When he crosses paths with Avery (Cooper), a rookie police officer, a violent confrontation changes both their lives. Years later, their two sons unknowingly collide with one another, thrusting them into a tense inter-generational feud. The Place Beyond the Pines is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains.
Gosling is well on his way to having a spectacular year. Between this and Gangster Squad he should be viewed as a real deal up and coming superstar which IMO I think he already is. Look forward to this and many more from him and Cooper...
Between this, The Gangster Squad, Only God Forgives, and The Untitled Terrence Malick Project with Rooney Mara, 2013 is shaping up to be an amazing year in Ryan Gosling!
This indeed looks as if it will be a fine film. Cianfrance's Blue Valentine is quite an accomplishment (and is in my collection) so I'm looking forward to this other Cianfrance-Gosling collaboration.
Gosling is becoming something of a go-to guy for memorable tough-guy characters (Drive; Gangster Squad; The Place Beyond the Pines). But he's much more versatile than that. One of today's best actors.
