Arrow Films have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray director Alain Corneau's (Tous les matins du monde, The Second Wind) crime thriller Crime d'amour a.k.a Love Crime (2010), starring Ludivine Sagnier, Kristin Scott Thomas and Patrick Mille. The preliminary release date set by the studio is April 8th.
Christine (Scott Thomas) is a tough business executive who will stop at nothing to get to the top of the corporation she works for; even going so far as to take the ideas of her ambitious assistant, Isabelle (Sagnier), and fob them off as her own. When Isabelle realises this, she concocts a plan to remove Christine from the picture for good in order to secure her progression in the company and make sure her ideas are recognized as her own.
It is very good, Nitin. Some time ago I picked up the French disc, but it is not English-friendly and cannot be reviewed. Definitely consider adding the film to your collection
Could have been a very good thriller, but the second half of the film tries to be too clever by a half. The plot becomes transparent (and rather implausible). I really liked the first half, where the dynamic between Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier was just so unpredictable. Kristin Scott Thomas, in particular, is really good (essentially fleshing out her cold, driven CEO boss role from Largo Winch, but with far juicier material). But the climax in the first act completely changes the tone, and the rest of the movie doesn't live up to its potential. I would still recommend seeing the first half :-)
It's available for streaming on Netflix. I'm sure this is bringing brought over since Brian De Palma (Scarface) recently did an English language remake entitled Passion.
