Finally! This has been on my want list for a long time. A great romantic film, beautifully lensed, scored and acted. Jodie Foster was remarkable in this one...
I liked the film & had expected to not like it since I liked the French original quite a bit. One of the rare situations for me where I like both the original foreign & the USA remake. Typically the USA remakes are dumbed down versions that lose much in translation.
For years, damn near 20 years now, this movie has stood in my parents house as one of the most depressing films my parents have ever made themselves watch (their words, not mine. I have yet to suggest Requiem For A Dream to them). It's also the leverage my father used to get my mother to watch Terminator 2. So I guess some good came out of it.
