Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release a combo pack edition of Dan Bradley's Red Dawn (2012), starring Chris Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas and Josh Hutcherson. The release will be available for purchase on March 5th.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), and Adrienne Palicki (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) deliver a full arsenal of pulse-pounding excitement in this explosive action-adventure! The unsuspecting citizens of Spokane, Washington, wake up one morning to the shocking sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky in a surprise attack on the United States. Soon the entire region is under enemy control, but a group of courageous teenagers has decided to fight back, waging an all-out war against the invaders, to take back their town – and their freedom!
From what I read about this film, it was supposed to be about the Chinese invading the U.S.. But because the Chinese got offended, and the producers wanted to maintain access to the lucrative Chinese box office, they changed the invaders from China to North Korea. The changes include a change to an opening sequence summarizing the story's fictional backdrop (dropping the original storyline of Chinese "repossession" after the US defaults on loans for a Chinese and Russian-backed North Korean invasion), re-editing two scenes, and using digital technology to change Chinese symbols and dialogue to Korean.
I wish that they would include the original cut of the film, with the Chinese dialog and symbols and everything else. To be honest, the Chinese as our invaders seems more realistic, although I'm sure it wouldn't be because of their loans to us.
