BBC Home Entertainment is bringing two documentary series to Blu-ray on April 9, 2013: The Great Barrier Reef and One Life. The Great Barrier Reef explores the diverse wildlife of the world's most spectacular coral reef, while One Life is a celebration of the most brilliant and imaginative stories of survival from the animal kingdom.
Stretching a full 2000 kilometers in length and made up of 3000 individual reef systems and hundreds of islands, Australia's Great Barrier Reef is breathtakingly beautiful. Selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981, it is one of the wonders of the natural world. These programs offer a definitive guide to the secrets of the reef -- how it was created, how it works, the intricate relationships between its inhabitants and how climate change and other factors might shape its future. Using the latest specialist filming and visual techniques, the series captures the magic of the reef as it has never been seen before. Episodes include "Nature's Miracle," "Reef to Rainforest" and "Reef and Beyond."
Over five billion years, life on Earth has evolved into the incredible richness and variety we see today. ONE LIFE is a celebration of the most brilliant and imaginative stories of survival from the animal kingdom. The story arc takes us through the full cycle of life to the birth of the next generation, but it also goes one step further - revealing that, whether we have wings or flippers, two legs or eight, the triumphant story of life connects us all. We'll see the depth of a mother's love through the octopus that gives up her life for her babies, and as snow monkeys shun outsiders from their hot springs, we'll be reminded of the uncomfortable inequalities that exist in many societies. Importantly, parallels with the human world will be sensitively drawn - never forced or overplayed.
I watched this on 9 network when it aired in Australia. While not as informative as some other BBC documentaries this one really interested me and has some absolutely stunning underwater shots. Being a scuba diver myself, I went a little green with envy. Will definitely pick this one up!
