Is this generally considered the best of them? I'm just curious, cuz I liked the first one alright but I thought this one was retarded and turned it off. If this is the best, I suppose I shouldn't bother with III...
If anyone has directv it is coming on HBO zone ch. 509 in hd on thur. jan. 31st at 1am westcoast time if you want to save $20 and not wait till end of march to see it.
Regarding the original "Phantasm" the very latest DVD release came from Anchor Bay, so it's possible they still have it or it may have reverted to some other company and it's anybody's guess. This, "Phantasm II" has always been with Universal and was only in recent times given a bare-bones release so, really thank God, Shout! decided to go with this "Scream Factory" division.
Ok, I'm happy to see Phantasm II, but like everyone else is saying... where the heck is the original? I've seen a ridiculous number of horror films in my life and the original Phantasm is one of the best.
Funny how everyone complains about no Phantasm 1. It's not like Scream Factory did not try and option it. Anchor Bay/Starz still holds the rights to every Phantasm film in north America except for Phantasm II.
why do these TROLLS keep skipping around with all these series.
like let's bring out part 4 and then wait 3 years to bring out 1,2,3 and then 5
what's wrong with a boxset, why MUST they play so much......
hey Larry!
What?!
pick a movie
ok
whats the title?!
Phantasms
Phantasms?
Yeah!
lala ok Phantasms it is, wait what who cares, at least we are Echo Bridging it.
haha boss your so funny.
-Phantasm I, III, and IV are owned by Anchor Bay
-Phantasm II is owned by Universal
-However, Don Coscarelli/Starway International has all rights to the films (regarding II, he/they probably just has international rights since US rights are with Universal)
-MGM still owns Phantasm somewhat (probably TV rights because it's an Avco title and MGM holds the library to that. Another example is Time Bandits because even though Image/HandMade Films owns it, MGM still has the TV rights because again, it's an Avco title).
Thank you Nailwraps! Fans of Phantasm will know these details, and not bother asking a forum where the 1st film is. Ever since Phantasm II was announced on Scream! people have asked about the first film. I swear, do they all have gold spheres in their heads? Anchor Bay keeps a firm grip on the few remaining horror hits they have left to their name, mainly Phantasm, Halloween 1,4 &5, Army of Darkness and Hellraiser 1&2. These will no doubt see yet another re-release in the coming year. Scream! Factory always shows them up.
