The Gold Box deal presents the bundle at a 62% markdown from its SRP of $64.99; the Blu-rays are remastered in 1080p and carry 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio tracks alongside many special features, such as behind-the-scenes featurettes and multiple audio commentaries on the four films.
This deal expires at 12 AM PST/3 AM EST next Sunday, February 3rd.
Grabbed this last year when (if memory serves) it went for around 19.99. If you honestly don't own this yet, it's completely worth grabbing. Even if you're not a fan of the sequels, The Animatrix is well worth your time and, unless I am wrong, this set is the only place to get it.
Boothill, that's the price you pay for being an early adopter, or buying on day of release. I've learned my lesson to wait a few months, or even a year or two. The price invariably drops by then.
Silly question for people with a 3D-display: If your TV can do 2D -> 3D on the fly, did you ever tried watching The Matrix with this feature turned on? What did you think?
This is a good deal...If you do not own this set, you should buy it...... but... like many of you, I already own it. And I am sure I paid a higher price. I agree with The Great Artiste.. I have learned to wait. Spend less on Blu-rays and you can own MORE Blu-rays.
Got this as a freebie when I bought a Blu-ray player from Circuit City 5 years ago. That player took a dump a while ago though so at least it was worth it for this set.
Just placed an order for it. "Starting" my blu-ray collection and have wanted to own this for a while, and for only a little over $4/disc, I couldn't pass it up!
I bought the Complete Matrix (movies only, HD-DVD), then I couldn't resist the Ultimate Matrix (35 hours of extras, HD-DVD) when the price dropped below $30. Matrix 2&3 have a different atmosphere and tone, but the imagery is amazing. I didn't like them as much on first viewing, partially because they feel like a different kind of story than the original. But with repeated viewing I find I like them more and more. In a world full of advertizing and mass culture we're all living in a somewhat artificial and orchestrated reality. Learning to see past all the hype and understand who's feeding us a perspective, and why, really feels like slowly becoming aware of the Matrix. Funny - even becoming aware of the Matrix movies themselves as an allegory feels like beginning to notice there's something going on beyond the obvious surface, and almost like you're beginning to wake up. That's the genius of the Matrix. It's real, it's just not what we thought it was.
Have the first 2 movies individually and was waiting for the third (I like having the complete sets) Wanted this before buying the other 2 but didn't want to spend $100 on it. Now to get the third I would have doubled up on the 2nd movie for $15 locally. Might as well spend the extra $10 and get it all in one set, especially for the Animatrix
These need to be remastered for Blu-ray data rates. These are the HD-DVD encodes and there is plenty of macroblocking throughout. I really wish that Amir hadn't tainted the folks over at WB with his VC-1 nonsense.
There are two main drawbacks with this set. Though the title makes you think you are getting everything here, in fact, it does not come with all of the extras that are with the DVD release that came out in 2004 under the same name. Also, not all of the extras are presented in HD.
However, for the price, if you don't have these on blu already, this is a fantastic buy. I got it for 19.95 back when Circuit City was going out of business. I already have the 2004 DVD release, which I kept as I mentioned, it contains several extras that are not included with the Blu set.
I have the 3 movie set on HD DVD and always wanted to get it on the Blu-Ray format but am reluctant to do so(since blu-ray & HD-DVD are same in picture/sound). I own the Animatrix on DVD, so good on that. Only thing I don't have is some of the bonus stuff, which I really don't care about not owning. There are other upcoming blu-rays that I will be spending my money on and since I can always get this set on eBay/Half.com at the Amazon sale price, I am contented with my HD-DVD set for now.
