On February 3, 2013 the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will take the field for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. 30 days after The Big Game, on March 5th, NFL Films and Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment will release on Blu-ray Super Bowl XLVII Champions.
With its award-winning video and cinematography, NFL Films captures the non-stop action-packed season, playoff and Super Bowl XLVII highlights and behind-the-scenes footage every die-hard fan loves to see. The Super Bowl XLVII Champions film allows fans to relive the incredible journey of their favorite team from opening kickoff, through the regular season and playoffs and finally culminating with the glorious Super Bowl victory in New Orleans. For the first time ever on an NFL release, the Super Bowl XLVII Champions Blu-ray contains BD-Live, an internet-connected feature offering fans access to exclusive bonus content, sneak-peeks and more features from NFL Films.
But what is it about? Who were the champions? Not enough details to make me want to purchase yet. Plus the cover art is boring and generic. No hint or clue who the winners are.
This production has the makings of being the best Blu-ray release yet of any Super Bowl. The project seems ambitious though, for 1 disc (even at 50GB dual layer) to contain all that proposed content. Hope they make it two discs so the highest picture quality is retained for the game itself. The BD Live feature should be a treat! March 5th seems so far away...
Definitely will not include the Super Bowl in it's entireity. Only way you'll get an HD version of that is with a dvr.
Not a fan, but might pick it up just to relive Ray Lewis's 2nd Super Bowl victory speech.
There are usually several "versions" of the Super Bowl:
The FULL network TV broadcast with pregame, halftime show, trophy presentation, post game. This complete version is NEVER on home video. The only way to get it is to record it yourself from TV.
The EDITED network TV broadcast of the game with pregame, game stoppages, halftime show, trophy presentation, post game ALL TAKEN OUT. This is usually released as "Road to Super Bowl" DVD or Blu-ray in June or July.
The 30-minute highlight version shot by NFL Films, which is usually shown on ESPN. This version is also never released on home video.
The 30-minute highlight version shot by NFL Films, containing similar footage from the above but TAILORED for fans of the winning team, to be released as a special DVD or Blu-ray: "Super Bowl Champions: <Team Name>". This is usually released within a month or two after the Super Bowl.
