Lionsgate Films have officially announced and detailed their upcoming 3D Blu-ray release of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's Gamer (2009), starring Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, and Ludacris. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the nation on May 7th.
Butler stars as Kable, condemned criminal and globally famous super-soldier in the ultimate multi-player game, "Slayers." Human controllers direct each thought and move of real-life prison inmates battling in hyper-intense environments - where the goal is freedom and the penalty is death. But when Kable suddenly decides he wants out, his rebellion threatens the twisted plans of game creator Ken Castle (Hall), who will stop at nothing to crush the renegade commando in this taut, adrenaline-packed action-thriller.

Note: The 3D Blu-ray release of Gamer is the first to arrive on the market after the recently announced partnership between Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Lionsgate Films. Read the news story here.
I'm surprised Lionsgate hasn't converted Twilight yet. Not that I want them to, I wouldn't watch it, but it seems like that would be much more marketable than Gamer.
God, the film was hard enough to watch in 2D because of its rapid fire editing and super shaky cam cinematography. I can't imagine how migraine inducing it would be in 3D.
Actually, the HUD overlay... the FPS look to some of the film, the 'game' style POV will work well in 3D. It's all about layers... depth to the image and Gamer certainly has those. Those of us with 3D displays will likely experience a great version of the film. Gamer wasn't a great movie but I most certainly have seen worse.
I find this film a guilty pleasure (bought it for 9 bucks at best buy and I'll admit I had fun with it) But I'd never update to 3D. This is so random, It's not like the directors even have another film on its way out... just pure randomness
Funny, because I just had the regular blu ray of GAMER in my hands yesterday for $7.99 an almost bought it. I am a big fan of 3D and love it on my Samsung so now I am glad I didn't buy it yet. The 3D isn't just about stuff popping out of the screen at you but more about a very realistic depth, etc. Just take Prometheus 3D for an example.... marvelous visuals!! Plus, I enjoy many of the children's films in 3D and that makes for a great family night complete with our goofy glasses and popcorn!
