Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing three additional catalog titles to Blu-ray this summer: Driven, starring Sylvester Stallone and Kip Pardue; Rendition starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep; and Running Scared, starring Paul Walker. All three films are set to arrive on Blu-ray on June 11th.
Driven: A young hot shot driver (Kip Pardue, Remember the Titans) is in the middle of a championship season and is coming apart at the seams until a former CART champion (Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables 2) is called in to give him guidance. Director Renny Harlin's action drama also features performances from Burt Reynolds, Stacy Edwards, Til Schweiger, Gina Gershon, Estella Warren, Cristian De La Fuente, Brent Briscoe and Verona Feldbusch.
Rendition: Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal), a CIA analyst working in North Africa, starts to question his assignment when he witnesses the brutal North African police interrogation of an Egyptian-American named Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally), an Egyptian-American chemical engineer and U.S. immigrant suspected of a terrorist act. Meanwhile, Anwar's pregnant wife Isabella (Reese Witherspoon) does everything she can to find him. She enlists the help of an old college friend, Alan Smith (Peter Sarsgaard), an aide to Senator Hawkins (Alan Arkin), who uncovers the shocking fact that Anwar has been shipped off to a third-world country for interrogation on the orders of Corrine Whitman (Meryl Streep), the head of the CIA's anti-terrorism unit. Isabella and Douglas team up to try to secure Anwar's release from a secret detention facility somewhere in the Middle East.
Running Scared: Slick, fast-paced and brutally shocking, this gritty actioner is a jolt to the senses. Struggling mob hand Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) finds his life turned inside-out when a "hot" weapon he's in charge of concealing goes missing. With two mafia families and a team of crooked cops watching his every move, Joey sets out on a chilling, bloody pursuit, maneuvering his way through a horrific web of creeps and criminals, praying he can retrieve the gun and make it home to his family alive. Writer/director Wayne Kramer's gritty actioner also features performances from Chazz Palminteri, Vera Farmiga, Cameron Bright, Ivana Milicevic, Karel Roden and Johnny Messner.
Warner has yet to detail technical specifications or special features for the June 11th catalog releases.
Driven is kinda cheesy but I like it so I'm in for that plus Running Scared. Great bizarre film that was released in Canada a while ago under Aliance and in 1080i for some idiotic reason. Probably the wrong aspect ratio too knowing them. Haven't seen Rendition so not sure about that one but I'm good on the other two.
I'm down for RUNNING SCARED. If you look at the little boys story as a modern day fairytale you really do start to admire the movie. It does get dark and twisted but always a fun ride.
Driven is the ONLY Stallone film I've never seen. Will have to rent it one day. Running Scared surprised the hell out of me when I saw it a few years back; really cool movie! And Rendition is a run-of-the-mill flick that isn't really my bag but it was decent.
I like Driven, it's not as good as the classic movie "Le Mans" or "Grand Prix", but there are not so many movies with racing. So I'll add this to my collection and give the DVD version away.
I have been waiting patiently for Running Scared to hit blu-ray in the U.S. for years! Now, I just hope that the video and audio quality are solid as well.
Aw man I thought it was the 80's Running Scared w/ Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines for a sec. That's my favorite. This one was good too. Might pick it up.
I actually enjoyed Driven, so I'm looking forward to picking it up. And Running Scared was gritty and intense, and I enjoyed it immensely!! Can't wait for that one too.
But Rendition I can do without. It wasn't that great.
You were hoping for the 1986 Running Scared with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal, huh? Hopefully MGM/Fox will announce that one soon. One of my favorites.
Good to see so many Running Scared fans. Paul Walker seems to be the local whipping boy, but RS is a wild ride. I imported the blu-ray a couple of years ago. I wonder if this is an upgrade.
No Running Scared is going to be the same version that came out on HD DVD/Blu Ray a few years back........they are just porting it over for a US release
