Magnolia Acquires Nymphomaniac

Magnolia Home EntertainmentIndependent U.S. distributors Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to controversial Danish director Lars von Trier's highly anticipated new film Nymphomaniac (2013). The film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman and Jamie Bell.

Magnolia Pictures also distributed von Trier's excellent Melancholia, which won Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Kiefer Sutherland.

Note: The following films directed by Lars von Trier are currently available on Blu-ray: Antichrist, Melancholia, and Dancer in the Dark.

I believe, although correct me if I am wrong, that most of his films lose vast amounts of money. So why do the Studios keep financing his films?

This is in no way an indictment of his films, I really really liked Dogville

Congratulations to Magnolia. This film will go direct to VOD before a small ten screen theatrical release and then to Blu-ray where most won't care.
