StudioCanal has announced that it will release on Blu-ray director Jean-Pierre Melville's L'armée des ombres a.k.a Army of Shadows (1969), starring Lino Ventura, Paul Meurisse, and Jean-Pierre Cassel. The release will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on April 8th.
There are no special features mentioned with the current announcement.
French war drama directed by Jean-Pierre Melville and based on the novel by Joseph Kessel. Drawing on the director's own experiences in World War II, the film follows a band of resistance fighters in German-controlled France. As the war continues, the grip of the occupying force tightens, and friendships, loyalty and trust give way to suspicion, secrecy and loss.

Special Features:
Army of Shadows - The Hidden Side of the Story - Documentary Film
Booklet on the movie written by Ginette Vincendeau, Professor and Film Critic
The Criterion release is amazing, but I love the color scheme of the Studio Canal cover much better (plus its probably a digibook). If this has different features than the Criterion, then I will certainly import this! This film is a masterpiece, Melville is one of my favorite directors of all time.
Great movie but pretty light on extras compared to both the Criterion and BFI releases, especially for the high price point (£24.99 RRP). And being StudioCanal it will probably have those ridiculously tiny subtitles they're so fond of too.
