Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS-TWC, a multi-platform label from The Weinstein Company, have officially announced the Blu-ray release of director Peter Ho-Sun Chan's Dragon, which stars martial arts master Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Takeshi Kaneshiro (Red Cliff) and Wei Tang (Lust, Caution). The Chinese action drama streets on April 16th.
Synopsis: Liu Jin-xi (Yen) is a village craftsman whose quiet life is irrevocably shattered by the arrival of two notorious gangsters in the local general store. When Liu single-handedly saves the shopkeeper's life, he comes under investigation by detective Xu Bai-jiu (Kaneshiro). Convinced that Liu's martial arts mastery belies a hidden history of training by one of the region's vicious clans, Xu doggedly pursues the shy hero and draws the attention of China's criminal underworld in the process.
Dragon features a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track and two special features: "The Making of Dragon" with Donnie Yen and a "Lost in Jianghu" music video.
Potential buyers beware - The Weinstein Co. cut Wu Xia (Dragon's original title) down from 116 minutes to 97 minutes for the US release. The HK blu-ray from Media Asia is uncut and gorgeous.
Dragon: Wu Xia is bar none the best HK action film since Yen's own Ip Man from 2008. Highly recommended. as BigManDeath mentioned, US version is cut by roughly 15 mins so import the HK version if possible.;)
