The Cinema Guild will release on Blu-ray Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho's O som ao redor a.k.a Neighboring Sounds (2012), starring Irma Brown, Sebastião Formiga, and Gustavo Jahn. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the nation on April 30th.
In 2012, Neighboring Sounds won Itamaraty Award for Best Brazilian Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival.
A palpable sense of unease hangs over a single city block in the coastal town of Recife, Brazil. Home to prosperous families and the servants who work for them, the area is ruled by an aging patriarch and his sons. When a private security firm is reluctantly brought in to protect the residents from a recent spate of petty crime, it unleashes the fears, anxieties and resentments of a divided society still haunted by its troubled past. Neighboring Sounds is one of my top films of 2012. Nice to see it's coming to blu (I wasn't sure if it would be released on the format). I've already preordered it.
