Whitesnake: Made in Japan Blu-ray

Posted February 28, 2013 06:07 AM by Webmaster

Blu-ray MoviesFrontiers Records has officially announced that it will release Whitesnake's highly anticipated live concert Made in Japan on Blu-ray, DVD, and Deluxe 2CD/DVD Edition in the United Kingdom on Monday April 22nd (North American release date is Tuesday April 23rd).

Multi-platinum rock band Whitesnake co-headlined the "Loud Park" festival on October 15th 2011 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan during their "Forevermore World Tour." The performance was initially recorded for Japanese TV and future Loud Park promotions, but after three songs were broadcast on a Loud Park highlights program in Japan, Whitesnake received unprecedented requests for this performance to be made available for general release.

,

Having spent most of 2012 editing and mixing the Japanese concert in stunning HD as a multi format DVD-CD in 5.1 and stereo, just prior to commencing the 'Year Of The Snake' 2013 World Tour, this exceptional performance is a welcome addition to the history of Whitesnake live releases. Now fans can relive the irresistible magic of Whitesnake in concert any time their heart and loins may desire.

The 'Forevermore' songs alone are worth the price of admission, not forgetting the classic Whitesnake songs, "Is This Love," "Still Of The Night" and "Here I Go Again," all performed at the height of their musical powers. It's all here. This is what Whitesnake fans, new and old, have been clamouring for. Highlights include blistering guitar work from the band's six string guitar slingers, Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach, who both celebrate their 10th anniversary with the band this year.

Whitesnake also features the earth-shaking rhythm section, The Wrecking Crew featuring Michael Devin (bass) and Briian Tichy (drums), who anchor the deep and dirty foundation of Whitesnake. The band is accompanied by the swirling sonic tapestries of special guest keyboardist Brian Ruedy, and of course, the chest beating, seductive vocals of front man and founder, David Coverdale.

After hearing the sound check recordings from the different Japanese venues, the band decided to include them in the package as special bonus content. They agreed that everything would be related to their 2011 Japanese tour. So, when you think about it, it is appropriate they've called the project "Made In Japan".

I'm a big fan but you'd think they could've squeezed more onto the blu-ray.

I know it SAYS that Brian Tichy is on drums, but that photo at the top looks like long-time drummer TOMMY ALDRIDGE (?).

What'd I'd love to see is Whitesnake Commandos! on BD. I wonder if that was even shot on film..? All I have is a badly rotted unwatchable Jap LaserDisc put out Toshiba or something.... 'An' here's a song for YA!' :-) Badly in need of an upgrade.

@katt329: Yes, it is false hair. David lost his hair about fifteen years ago. He may have switched from a hairpiece to plugs as the processes improved, but either way, it's not his real hair.

I figured he grew it back.... He had short hair but didn't look balding on 'Into The Light'...

Sheesh, can't we get people to write these articles that actually like the subject they're discussing? It's clear whomever wrote this can't stand Whitesnake.

;-)

I'll definitely pick this one up, but filming performances over several different shows and releasing a Blu-ray that only has 10 proshot songs on it not including the guitar and drum solos? That seems very lacking in content. So I looked up that tour and it turns out they only played 14 different songs anyway! The four songs that were not included in the proshot footage are:

1) Burn / Stormbringer (Deep Purple cover, could have been a rights issue)
2) Can You Hear The Wind Blow
3) Soldier of Fortune (Deep Purple cover)
4) The Deeper the Love

Wonder why they didn't at least include the other two songs they own the rights to.

it'd have been better if they'd have had burn, stormbringer, and soldier, as those are better songs than any on this disc.

i was pleased to see 'steal your heart away' until i remembered that the song i like is 'steal away' (from the snakebite ep).

i'll pick it up anyways, being a fanboy and all.

@dobyblue

It's the record company's press release or whatever it's called, that they sent out, I've read the same thing somewhere else.
Too short of a setlist, and too little of the old stuff, I'm talking Moody/Marsden/Lord/Murray/Paice era stuff. It's all but forgotten it seems...

I wish that I would have seen them with Sykes back in the day, but I did get to see them with Vai back in 90.

Cool love whitesnake! Also love that they give you the companion cd with it. They need to do this with all bluray concerts.

I saw the picture with Tommy Aldridge and got really excited. And then I was let down to see he was not in the lineup. That man is a machine. I saw him on the Whitesnake and Slip of the Tongue tours and he is just a "fucking" machine. I would love to see him, Sarzo and Aldrich back Ozzy on a tour...sort of a Rhoads Tribute tour with the Castle Stage Setup. Aldrich is another "machine" awesome guitarist I enjoy watching in action.

@ ksyblues; there is no companion CD with it; that's what sucks. I went on their official website and it lists all the details there (pretty much the same as on here). The companion CD comes with the DVD but not the Blu-ray. I'm almost tempted to get the 2 CD/DVD set instead of the Blu-ray so I can get the bonus disc with the soundcheck...

Here's a link on Amazon UK for the 2CD/DVD set: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Made-Japan-2CD-Deluxe-Edition/dp/B00BHXUC8E/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp

@Boothill Gunslinger: Sykes has done some solo stuff and he rejoined Thin Lizzy for awhile. He was supposed to get a band going with Mike Portnoy last year, but that never happened. Sykes said that he has some songs written that sound like Whitesnake 1987 meets Blue Murder S/T. Hopefully, someday Sykes will release them.

looks interesting, but I prefer the early Whilesnake band when Ian Paice was in the drums
