Warner-France has revealed that it is preparing a Blu-ray release of François Truffaut's La Nuit américaine a.k.a Day for Night (1973), starring Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Valentina Cortese, Nathalie Baye, and François Truffaut. The preliminary release date set by the studio is June 12th.
The leading lady is recovering from a nervous breakdown, another performer is soused on the set, trade unions threaten to walk, shooting must finish before the insurance lapses and a cat can't hit its mark. Is this any way to make a film? Mais oui!
Day For Night is Francois Truffaut's sly, humorous bouquet to movies and the people who make them, the Oscar-winning Best Foreign Language Film (1973) that speaks the language of everyone who loves movies.
Note: In the U.S., Day for Night is currently available only on DVD, courtesy of Warner Brothers. See our listing here.
Still my favorite "movie about the movies." Here's hoping we get a U.S. version of it (although, please, not with that cringe-inducing dub ... or at the very least with dual audio!)
Genji Press is right!!! What a superb film this is! BUT----it MUST be viewed in the original polyglot-language version!! The international movie set with babblings in French, English and more (possibly even Sanskrit! LOL) is a fascinating place indeed! What a great look at "the movies!" And the opening sequence is just brilliant!
And please may we get that USA blu-ray release!
